Philadelphia police said a "flash mob" with thousands of teenagers and young adults swarmed South Street Saturday night causing businesses to close early and bringing law enforcement from across the city to control the crowd.

American Bandstand was one of my favorite TV shows. WFIL ruled and Dick Clark was on the right hand of God...

I was only 11 when "South Street" came out in 1963, but I was already somewhat aware of music; started playing piano at 6, and picked up guitar at 12...

The period from about 1958 to 1967 was the first great wave of rock-n-roll; the second great wave from 1967 until 1976 was more produced and often more pretentious. I lived them both, and loved them both, but the first will always be the one that made me aware of modern music.
