Yes we are Washington, Adams,et al (vanity)

Posted on 03/22/2010 7:24:23 AM PDT by vanilla swirl

We are up to the task!

I have heard it said by many that we are NOT our founding fathers (Glenn Beck among others), that we are not the leaders that they were. I beg to differ.

I do not think that George Washington, et al, had any idea what they were getting themselves into when they started.

I think that there are among us some that are just as great that can stand up to the task.

Saying that we are not our founding fathers elevates them to god-like status. If we are not equal to our founding fathers then we have NO BUSINESS OPENING OUR MOUTHS!

If we are not equal to our founding fathers then we have no business participating in any representative form of government.

There are PLENTY of us willing to take on the fight. The problem is, we have far more slackers willing to just sit on their ass and do nothing than the Founding Fathers ever did.

“The problem is, we have far more slackers willing to just sit on their ass and do nothing than the Founding Fathers ever did.”

I disagree, I think human nature has always been the same.

I’m sure the usual whiners will bitch and moan about this batle. However, if our founding Fathers had been so spineless, we would be singing God save the Queen.

Freedom is hard. We send our Sons and daughters to foreign lands to fight for Freedom.

Do we have LESS character AND STRENGTH than our own young people.

Amazing that some are so quick to hide under the bed, yet stand by and cheer our young peoples sacrifices.

STAND UP AND FIGHT.

People don't see quite how to start. When the King's Men wear red coats and march through the center of your town, the next step seems prety clear to a patriot. But in our current situation, it's just not clear what we need to do (hint: voting hasn't had a good track record lately).

But I will say that if somebody figures this out and starts something, it will snowball very quickly. This country is a puddle of gasoline -- we just haven't figured out how to strike the match. Yet.

Yes, you are so SO correct. If they are so much better than us, then we do not deserve a self rule government because we are admitting that there are ‘betters’ out there who know more about how to rule our lives than we do ourselves.

I think due to the diligence of the Secret Service in watching violent groups pop up, people are afraid to voice how exactly they are prepared to follow the founding fathers.

The one key thing is that they had a semblance of privacy. Other than a spy or two in the ranks, they could at least meet in secret and there were only a handful of large towns to meet in.

So, who wants to the be the first to organize a militia? And who is prepared to be the next Ruby Ridge? Because that’s what it’s gonna take and that’s what people are terrified of.

Washington was elevated to “myth-like status” in his own time. He was larger-than-life and revered in a way that no present-day American approaches. His generation of American leaders could write more eloquently and with far more substance than our Senate and House leaders today.

Can you imagine anyone today being elected unanimously?

Your right that human nature remains the same but still one can't compare the greats of Washington's generation to the spoiled brat generation of today.

Have you accepted the notion that the 1st Amendment is DEAD.
If so crawl under your bed.

“- we just haven’t figured out how to strike the match. Yet. “

I fear that will be struck for us.

I think first we need to assert a second Declaration of Independence or simply re-assert the first. Maybe the several states could come together for this purpose. Not secession per se, but a simple declaration that the states will no longer be subject to the federal government in D.C.

what say you all?

I say that the linchpins of our nascent Republic were, in order, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and James Wilson.

Circumstances have changed. Society back then had few real creature comforts. Today we have expensive cars, boats, houses, stock portfolios and numerous other luxuries that a good number of people will be hesitant to put at risk.

Unfortunately, a lot of people are simply going to choose their possessions over their liberty, and that's sad.

our founding fathers put their necks at risk.

Again I say, if we are not equal with them then we do not deserve a representative form of government.

I live in a county that has 9 elected offices. Eight of them are filled by frigging democrats. The ninth is an independent who will run as a frigging democrat next time.

I and some others have been meeting for about six months to find conservative people to run as Republicans. (Conservative and Republican are not necessarily synonymous.) As of close of business at the courthouse last Friday (candidate declarations closed, too) there were two people running for the county commission as Republicans. There were also 18 people running for 14 Precinct Committeeman positions in the Republican party. The frigging democrats have six PC’s running. Big county geographically, small population, only 18 precincts.

All of this was a direct result of our little group which has been meeting in the basement of a church. What I just described is nothing short of a political miracle for this county.

Yes!, We the People are up to it! Now get busy. Do not let one day go by without doing something to elect conservative people at ALL levels of gubmint.

It does not take a majority to prevail... but rather an irate, tireless minority, keen on setting brushfires of freedom in the minds of men. --Samuel Adams

Look around for people who will help you set brushfires. They are out there, and you will find them.

"Can you imagine anyone today being elected unanimously?"

Regardless of what you might think of the man today, I still think that if Colin Powell had ran on the Republican ticket in '96 instead of Dole, he would have won by an overwhelming margin...perhaps not unanimously, but with a resounding majority. I suspect he didn't run because he was still masking his lib tendencies that have only come to the surface in more recent years.

Yes they did. They were truly men of great courage. I doubt we have the fire in our bellies to do what they did then. I sincerely hope I'm wrong.
