What about energy expended and emissions released from mining, refining, manufacturing, importing parts and whole vehicles, and overall transportation to market of all the new vehicles versus leaving the “clunkers” on the road?

I believe that I read someplace that the most turned-in vehicle was the Ford F150 truck. The most purchased vehicle was the Ford F150 truck.

People simply used this program to trade in an old (gas guzzling) truck for a new (gas guzzling) truck.

My wife had a small accident with her Jeep that requires some front end replacement parts. The dealer reports that there are none to be had anywhere in the country and Jeep/ Chrysler does not plan on manufactuing them until the end of May. The vehicle is 3 years old !

When I asked him why anyone in their right mind would buy a Jeep/Chrysler product now, he just shrugged.
