Exempted from Obamacare: Senior Staff Who Wrote The Bill
The New Ledger ^ | 3/22/2010 | Ben Domenech

Posted on 03/22/2010 4:18:39 PM PDT by Bell407Pilot

For as long as the political fight took over the past year, the abbreviated review process on the health care legislation currently pending on President Obama’s desk is unquestionably going to result in some surprises — as happens with any piece of mashed-up legislation — both for the congressmen who voted for it and for the American people.

The newspaper print media for the most part belongs to Guilds (especially the reporters and editors) and the Guilds are part of the Communication Workers of America (if part of The Newspaper Guild of America) as such they stand to be exempt from the surcharge on Cadillac Plans which would cost their firms millions and millions which they can’t raise by increasing ad revenues or cutting many expenses other than personnel costs. That means they have a vested interest in Health Care Reform (especially i9f their programs are underfunded like most of the plans)since it saves their jobs.

+++ Ill bet that the overwhelming majority of those that favor Obamacare for the rest of us are exempt from it themselves which tells us all we want to know about it. +++

Exempt: the “MILLSTONERS”.......I’d like to get th actual numbers here. Fit’s right in with a “Beltway Bailout” for the millstoners, while the rest of the country suffers job losses. (They’re “exempt”)

Remember the Animal Farm mantra?

Certainly it applies to the globalist elite who think they are superior to the American middle class.

The coverage through November likely will highlight the most extreme attacks on the President and his law and spotlight stories of real Americans whose lives have been improved by access to health care (pushed, no doubt, by Democrats from every competitive congressional district and state).

That's a neat trick, since we'll be taxed now and the benefits don't kick in 'til 2013 or 2014.

Gee, if this healthcare bill is such a good thing, why would they deny themselves its benefits?

Seems to me that violates the equal protection clause.

Whatever it is, it is the common practice in DC. Heck, for a long time Congress exempted itself from the laws governing personnel equal rights legislation.

Seems to me that violates the equal protection clause.

Democrats have been opposing the Equal Protection Clause for 142 years now.

Tar & Feather them...

Feathers are lighter than pink slips. Mailing is certainly one way to get them there.

Wow, that’s quite the threat, and not even veiled. But thanks for announcing your game plan, you know, just for confirmation...

So has anyone actually broke(pun intended)en down this monstrosity to an actual details level? I see the NYSlimes(great source /s)has a little number on the details...one such area of the bill states(as to the penalties)

Starting in 2014, most Americans will be required to buy health insurance or pay a penalty.

The penalty will be phased in, starting at $95 or 1 percent of income in 2014, whichever is higher, and rising to $695 or 2.5 percent of income in 2016. But families would not pay more than $2,085.

American Indians don’t have to buy insurance. Those with religious objections or a financial hardship can also avoid the requirement. And if you would pay more than 8 percent of your income for the cheapest available plan, you will not be penalized for failing to buy coverage.

Those who are exempt, or under 30, can buy a policy that only pays for catastrophic medical costs. It must allow for three primary care visits a year as well.<.i>

I just exempted myself from the health care "law." It was very easy.

I will use the same exemption code as these "senior staffers" who drafted the bill.

What evil overlords, devils, crooks and thugs ..

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“But as with a lot of legislative matters, the devil is in the details — or in this case, the definitions. As anyone who’s worked on Capitol Hill knows, the personal office staff for a member is governed by different rules than those who work on committees and in the leadership offices.
It appears from the way this language is written that those staffers NOT in personal offices, such as those working and paid under the committee structure (such as those working for Chairman Henry Waxman) or those working on leadership staff (such as those working for Speaker Nancy Pelosi) would be exempt from these requirements (emphasis added).
(ii) DEFINITIONS- In this section:
(I) MEMBER OF CONGRESS- The term `Member of Congress’ means any member of the House of Representatives or the Senate.
(II) CONGRESSIONAL STAFF- The term `congressional staff’ means all full-time and part-time employees employed by the official office of a Member of Congress, whether in Washington, DC or outside of Washington, DC.
According to the Congressional Research Service, this definition of staff will only apply to those staffers employed within a member’s “personal office” — meaning that it will absolutely not apply to committee staff members, and may not apply to leadership staff.
This problem was acknowledged earlier in the process — last year, Senator Grassley tried to repair it, but he was rebuffed.
As Speaker Pelosi said a few weeks ago, it’s only after this legislation is passed that we’ll truly find out what’s in it.”
Their arrogance and power mongering know no depths.
this is a plain old-fashioned Democratic tax bill, disguised as a “health “ bill, designed to preserve and expand the jobs and benefits of the parasitic class in DC. Nothing more...nothing less. Yours and mine health care needs merely interfere with their career plans.
