Washington (CNN) - A majority of Americans have a dim view of the sweeping health care bill passed by the House, saying it gives Washington too much clout and won't do much to reduce their own health care costs or federal deficits, according to a new poll released Monday.
A CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll found that 59 percent of those surveyed opposed the bill, and 39 percent favored it. All of the interviews were conducted before the House voted Sunday night, but the contents of the bill were widely known.
In addition, 56 percent said the bill gives the government too much involvement in health care; 28 percent said it gives the government the proper role and 16 percent said it leaves Washington with an inadequate role.

Hey, with 59% in a CNN poll, you can bet the true figure is about 69%...

28 percent said it gives the government the proper role and 16 percent said it leaves Washington with an inadequate role. The 28% are government lovers and the 16% are government worshipers.

Sadly, only 43% think it was too liberal. The other 16% in that number were to the left of Obama or unengaged idiots.

The Republicans can push it to 70-75%, if they would get off their asses and coordinate on a series of "pocketbook" talking points.
I posted this on another thread, but it's worth repeating:
If the Republicans want to make Obamacare the centerpiece of their strategy to take back control of Congress, they will have to step up and make their case clearly.
That means putting it in terms that everyone can understand.
- If you don't have health insurance, you will have to pay an "excise tax" (fine). It will be X% of your gross income unless you make less than $Y.
- You won't be able to avoid the excise tax unless you have a policy with provisions that will cost you about $Z/month. A low-cost policy for catastrophic health problems will not be acceptable.
- So, you think you can just pay the fine until you get sick? What happens when you have a serious accident and you can't get coverage right away? Who is going to pay those bills until you (or someone else) can sign you up for health insurance?
- Businesses have to pay an "excise tax" (fine) if they don't provide health insurance. Health insurance premiums will add about another $2/hour to a job that pays $10/hour. So, that means a business can only afford 5 employees instead of 6. Will you, or your spouse, or your kid just graduating be that 6th one? (numbers are an example only -- anyone know the actuals?).
- Insurance companies will have to offer insurance to everyone, at the same price. If you are relatively healthy, your health insurance premiums have to increase. You'll be paying more so that the 300 lb alcoholic chain smokers can get insurance at your price despite their self-destructive "lifestyle choices".
- No, the insurance company will not "just have to make less profits". The average profit margins for health insurers was recently 3.5% -- less than you can you can get from a 10-year Treasury bond. If your insurance company decides they can get a better return on their money offering something beside health insurance, do you think you'll be able to find a good deal elsewhere?
- In order to make the bill "deficit-neutral", $500 billion was simply taken away from Medicare by reducing reimbursement rates to doctors and hospitals. As a result, [a large projected number] doctors will simply stop accepting Medicare patients, because they can't pay own bills and staff at those rates. Will your doctor stop taking Medicare patients? If he or she does, Will you be able to find a good doctor that will do so?
Skip the ideological stuff about abortion and socialism. Focus on what it is going to do to people's pocketbook.
There's going to be a lot of mis-information flying around out there. The Democrats are going to try really hard to avoid these "pocketbook" issues and stick to "feel-good" platitudes.
If the Republicans can make their case for the impact on the average person's wallet and make it stick, voters will flock to the polls in November to vote for them.

59/39 is only a point less than the mandate LBJ and the infamous 89th congress had to pass all the American destroying legislation they did.

Hey, with 59% in a CNN poll, you can bet the true figure is about 69%... No no. The people just don't understand how great and just this is. There has been allot of misinformation. President Obama plans to spend the next few weeks educating the public. Then we will be grateful and return the Democrats to power.
That's there plan anyhow.

All of the interviews were conducted before the House voted Sunday night, but the contents of the bill were widely known. Widely known? Relatively few people know what is hidden away in that 2000-page monstrosity. (The so-called news media did little to help enlighten the public.) I daresay that the more people learn, the more likely they are to oppose it.
