The Governor appoints a replacement, usually from the Governor’s own party. In this case, our Governor, Sonny Perdue, is a Republican. A few years ago, Sen. Paul Coverdell (R) died during Roy Barnes’ (D) tenure, and he appointed a Democrat to replace him (Zell Miller).
I’d love to hear what Zell thinks about this past year and what his party has done.
If Barnes is allowed back in office GA will follow Obama with nary a whimper.
Zell has the distinction of being the last good Democrat Senator to serve in the Senate.
