Yes, seriously ... and the Group Policy rate increases caused by this change won't show up until January 2011 ... after the midterm elections.

They're assclowns, but they're not stupid assclowns.

“I caught a note about the requirement to carry insurance for your child until they are 26.”

I don’t think it’s a requirement, just an option. Our culture is infantilizing itself, and this is another step in that process.

Well, the insurance company gets paid for it; it's not like it's a freebie. In fact, it expands their market.

I have several friends with adult children (in their early 20s) who have jobs but no benefits. The parents are quite happy about that provision, even though they hate the rest of Obamacare. It's safer than having an uninsured kid and way cheaper than having a kid trying to buy private insurance (easily $7000 or more a year).

Whoever came up with the idea came up with a great marketing hook. Gotta say that much.

“What I read is the it is required for the insurance companies to maintain as beneficiaries until the age of 26 those ‘children’ on their parents insurance policies.”

Well, yes, from the insurance companies’ perspective, it is “required.” Which is not to say that just because you’re 26 you’ll be on yuour parents’ plan. That’s an option parents and children can exploit if they like. But by no means are parents required to “carry insurance for [their] child until they are 26,” as you stated.
