WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Barack Obama's nominee to oversee security at U.S. airports said on Tuesday he wants to shift screening closer to the Israeli model to include more behavior detection in a bid to thwart terrorism plots.

Retired Major General Robert Harding was nominated earlier this month to head the Transportation Security Administration after serving more than three decades in the military, including a stint as deputy to the Army's chief of intelligence and director for operations in the Defense Intelligence Agency.

Aviation security has received heightened attention in recent months after a Nigerian man tried to blow up a U.S. commercial airliner flying from Amsterdam to Detroit last Christmas with a bomb hidden in his underwear.

They’ve been around this tree before and political correctness won by saying we can’t profile.

The problem is one of numbers. The Israelis do a great job, because they take the time to actually screen the people.

TSA spends the whole time looking at bags, and the only screening of people is matching a government ID with a name on a ticket. I doubt if TSA could ever spend the time to talk with every passenger. We don't even do that at the border with Customs in this country.

I’m thinking that the Obamanation, Clintoon, and Betrayus will be calling for this guy’s head. They already demonstrated their absolute hatred of the world’s only Jewish nation.

The Israeli system is, as I understand it, multiple tiered—and very much human centered, in method and focus.

It starts with parking attendants (really guards) greeting you as you drive into the airport. If you don’t look at them or return a polite hello....you will be flagged for further screening. Every step of the way is like that...You are looked at in the eyes, to see how you personally respond. It’s VERY hard for someone full of insane hatred to hide it, when they are personally confronted, especially by friendliness.

It’s all very modern/corporate/even American to rely on mechanical/technological solutions (like b*mb detecting machines) when really, if instead of having multi-million-dollar machines, they just hired more very well trained and qualified employees at each gate....they could do better than an always stupid machine. Of course humans aren’t as reliable and predictable as machines...and corporate/bureaucratic types hate that—its so much “easier” and neater to mechanize everything possible, at least in the short term.

Terrorism is a long term issue though—at least as long as fanatical Islam is around...and we will, sooner or later adopt a more Israeli-person-centered-style model, or we will see another 9/11, in spite of the best machinery...

That sounds like a good plan. Not only will it smoke out the terrorists, but also improve behavior and attitude in grumpy a@hole business travellers.
