email from VA dims/Dickie Cranwell attacks AG Cuccinelli for suit against Obamacare (BARF ALERT)

Posted on 03/24/2010 8:29:21 AM PDT by Gopher Broke

Yesterday in Washington, our President signed historic health care reform that will make health coverage accessible and affordable for 1.2 million uninsured Virginians.

But here in Virginia, Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli has decided to wage a fruitless war against health care reform -- by filing a frivolous lawsuit against the federal government.

Today, Virginians are fighting back.

The Democratic Party of Virginia launched a petition today, calling on Ken Cuccinelli to stop wasting our tax dollars on his political stunts. Sign the petition today and tell Ken Cuccinelli that the Office of the Attorney General is the people's law firm, not the piggy bank for his political agenda.

Cuccinelli was elected to represent all Virginians as the state's top lawyer, but instead he's using our tax dollars to represent only the extreme political fringe of the Republican Party.

He hasn't lifted a finger to help Virginians struggling with unemployment, home foreclosures and predatory loans. But he has filed two frivolous lawsuits against the federal government and tried to impose his political agenda on state colleges' and universities' non-discrimination statutes.

Sign the petition today to tell Ken Cuccinelli to get back to doing the people's business.

And what is Ken Cuccinelli fighting? A health care bill that will help millions of Virginians:

93,400 Virginia small businesses will be eligible for tax credits to provide health care 1.2 million uninsured Virginians and 344,000 Virginians who purchase their own health care will have access to affordable health options through state-based insurance exchanges Virginians with pre-existing conditions will no longer be subject to insurance discrimination 190,000 Virginia seniors who are victims of the Medicare 'donut hole' for prescriptions will save money on needed drugs as the 'donut hole' is closed

Read all of the statisics here: http://dpc.senate.gov/docs/sr-111-2-41_states/va.pdf

But these aren't just numbers on a paper to me. As the parent of a child with a preexisting condition I know the challenges that these Virginians face every day. I know their struggles to get quality healthcare.

I'm proud that our President stood up for these forgotten Virginians.

I'm ashamed that our Attorney General is spending his time and our money fighting a politically motivated battle against this needed reform. Please join me in signing this petition today and calling on Attorney General Cuccinelli to get back to work on behalf of Virginians and to stop using his money as his political piggy bank.

Sincerely,

C. Richard Cranwell

Obama was elected to represent all Americans as the nation's president, but instead he's using our tax dollars to represent only the extreme political fringe of the kool aid Party.

Funny. I read pretty much the same karp from our dem governor when our Republican AG filed suit. I guess the Dems are getting their marching orders to attack any AG that files suit.

“He hasn't lifted a finger to help Virginians struggling with unemployment, home foreclosures and predatory loans”

I thought the Stimulus bill Obama signed took care of all that?

Hey Cranwell, as our “friends across the isle” keep telling us, “elections have consequences”. The Democrats got clobbered in both the Attorney General and Governorship elections in Virginia last November. The voters have spoken against 0bamacare. Just shut up and take it.

Well, after 8 years of Warner and Kaine, he can't fix everything in his first two months.

Last night, FReeper Columbia posted a Supreme Court case of New Deal vintage in which the court struck down legislation that gave the president authority to regulate the poultry industry. I love this paragraph of the decision.

39] In the final analysis the contention made rests upon a non-existent power in the Federal Government to enact any act deemed by it necessary or desirable to promote the general welfare.

A. L. A. Schechter Poultry Corp. v. United States, 55 S. Ct. 837, 295 U.S. 495 (1935)

Reread the article. Cuccinelli is the newly elected VA AG who filed suit against the federal government (Sebelius) claiming certain provisions of Obamacare are unconstitutional.
Cranwell, who sent the email requesting folks to sign the petition is a liberal Democrat member of the VA state legislature.

Also note that a state Attorney General’s primary job is to enforce written law. Period.

Not create jobs, or bail out irresponsible home-purchasers.

Didn’t think so.
