"D. Patrick Mahoney in The Washington Times yesterday also criticized Gleason and conferees, alleging Burns financial fortune that tops nine figures will enable him to self-fund his campaign and also contribute to other campaigns as well."
Isn't that the whole idea? If someone can and will self fund and is a solid conservative (as I understand Burns is) that's a good thing, no? Look I have heard Russell speak on a number of occassions and like what he has to say. However, I think in this instance he needs to just keep his mouth shut. He has intimated that he would not vote for Burns to take the rest of Murtha's term. How does that help Russell? Lets say Burns win the right to take the rest of Murtha's seat and Russell wins the primary to run in November, he's going to need Burns support. Why burn bridges? This election in November is too important to be quibbling about small stuff right now.

Actually Col. Russell wished Burns luck in the special election. And that’s a fact. He half-joking said he might wtite himself in at a town hall meeting in Indiana, PA, both he and Burns were there and the crowd laughed. He also said he’d vote for Burns should Burns be on the ballot in November.
Alot of the reporting on this has been taken out of context, or in some cases distorted by partisan commenters.

I’m with Russell. No reason for him to keep his mouth shut. He’s right.
