I agree. Back then it was Democrats who thwarted the Constitution. And today, it is once again Democrats who are twarting the Constitution.

Also, back then, it was a higher percentage of Republicans (81%) than Democrats (68%) who voted in favor of the Civil Rights Act. And today, it is once again a higher percentage of Republicans (100%) than Democrats (13%) who again uphold the Constitution.
