The only question is whether or not the military actually needs muslims in its ranks. They need translators and people who understand the enemy’s religion but beyond that...

Also, it’s completely unfair to ask the survivors of Fort Hood to respect muslims. Islam has never brought anything but death and misery into the world and they experienced it first hand.

Does the military need Muslims in its ranks?

We need AMERICANS in our ranks. And that ain't going to happen with Muslims...

BTW - I have been googling about the Japanese Americans during WW2. Some highlights (for those as blissfully ignorant as me)

When the government circulated a questionnaire seeking army volunteers from among the internees, 6% of military-aged male respondents volunteered to serve in the U.S. Armed Forces.[citation needed] Most of those who refused, however, tempered that refusal with statements of willingness to fight if they were restored their rights as American citizens. 20,000 Japanese American men and many Japanese American women served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

The 442nd Infantry, formerly the 442nd Regimental Combat Team of the United States Army, was an Asian American unit composed of mostly Japanese Americans who fought in Europe during World War II. [1] The families of many of its soldiers were subject to internment. The 442nd was a self-sufficient fighting force, and fought with uncommon distinction in Italy, southern France, and Germany. The unit became the most highly decorated regiment in the history of the United States Armed Forces, including 21 Medal of Honor recipients.

All Muslim units in the Armed Forces - an idea whose time has come - AGAIN?

I don't know - hard to say. After all that's gone on, it's hard for me to trust them - period.
