I haven’t seen anything posted on FR about the parliamentary issues that came up. The report I read said that it will force the House to vote on the revised bill.
What does this mean?
The House won’t have to vote on anything if all the proposed Senate amendments are defeated. The defeat is going on systematically or that is what I saw last night.
I’m confused about the validity of a law signed from a bill that’s still bouncing back and forth between the house and senate.
Isn’t that a bit like a dictator signing a decree and telling congress “Make it so”?
So the nightmare on Capital Hill II begins.
The House has to vote because one of the provisions was ruled by the parliamentarian that it could not be included with a Reconciliation bill
GOP forces another vote!
Deere and CAT both getting hit is really going to hurt West central Illinois. Peoria and the Quad Cities are so close in the same area. I grew up smack dab in between the 2 in Knox County, and A LOT of people from that area are employed by both those companies. Nice hit to the people of Obama’s own state, I pray for my friends who still work at Deere and CAT.
Me too!!! I’m at the point where I’ve said to a couple people: “Baba Booey to y’all”, when HCR talk comes up.
I have decided I’m going to start going around to random people and asking them for their belongings. When they tell me to get away or ask what I am thinking I will just say, “Hey, we’re a communist country now, right?!”
p.s. ExTexas: I watched the film “The Pianist” last night. They showed the Kapos you have mentioned. Welcome to the new Amerika!
I am sure that’s the whole point of the amendments.
Republicans (and Freepers SHOULD but many don’t I think) know that there’s nothing the GOP can do to stop it.
All they can do is stall a bit and let info out. The articles have been covering some of the main amendments and talking about them, which in turn is spreading the word about some of the bad problems with the bill.
Thanks. I hadn’t seen that yet. I saw a few votes last night where the Dems were stopping amendments.
You’re welcome. I’m hoping someone can tell me if this is really significant before I get my hopes up that this monstrosity might yet be stopped.
Verizon has some announcement about lost benefits due to this passage too. I just heard it but haven’t seen anything concrete.
Just so all know.
..they were still in session until almost 3:00 Am...yes AM Eastern time this morning... EVERY ammendment the republicans submitted the demos shot down.
Michele Malkin discovered they were still in session and posted on her site or i would not have seen it..she too was stunned!!!!
I don’t see how it will be stopped as such, only changed to some extent maybe.
Oh boy, these threads are like crack to me...
Better get some more coffee...
Cornyn up now - looks like they’re tag teaming.
Harry Reid up - saying that “we need to move more quickly” Looking for 10 minute restriction on each amendment or there’s a penalty.
Now there’s an oral floor vote
Dirty rotten son-of-a-b. Perverting the process and shutting up the opposition.
This is the 33rd vote on amendments or motions since 5:30yesterday per CSPAN.
The vote taken now will kill Sen Cornyn’s amendment (i’m not sure which one - came in midstream)
No. It is an add-on to what has already passed. If the house passes it, it will have changed almost nothing, and it will ADD the complete federalization of Student Loans.
It is a bad addendum to a very bad bill. Some of the kickbacks are out, but essentially, very little changes. It is a rock and a hard place package. If it passes in the house, the government has full control over college education funding. If it fails, we are stuck with what has already been signed with all the special favors.
Either way, bad, bad crap.
Thanks for the reporting, Dinah...I’m ashamed to say I cannot tune into politics right now for fear that my neighbors will have me carted off to Bellevue for my incessant screaming at the TV. I just follow the threads with a Lifetime movie on in the background.
Last night, Senate Republicans found two provisions related to Pell grants that violate Senate procedure. The provisions must be removed from bill, and then returned to the House for passage. The Senate is expected to hold a final vote today on the bill.
