Richmond Police Statement Did NOT Say Cantor Shot Was "Random"

Posted on 03/25/2010 3:23:14 PM PDT by Williams

Following is the police statement that I found on liberal sites, using it to say the shot was "random" as the AP did. While the shot may not have had much force after it penetrated the window, this PRELIMINARY police statement does NOT reach any conclusion the shot was fired at "random".

At least one liberal site posting this report acknowledged Cantor has reported other threats aside from the bullet:

"The Richmond Police Department is investigating an act of vandalism at the Reagan Building, 25 E. Main St., Richmond, Virginia. A first floor window was struck by a bullet at approximately 1 a.m. on Tuesday, March 23. The building, which has several tenants including an office used by Congressman Eric Cantor, was unoccupied at the time. A Richmond Police detective was assigned to the case. A preliminary investigation shows that a bullet was fired into the air and struck the window in a downward direction, landing on the floor about a foot from the window. The round struck with enough force to break the windowpane but did not penetrate the window blinds. There was no other damage to the room, which is used occasionally for meetings by the congressman."

Liberals don’t view threats against Conservatives and Republicans as a threat.

I don’t call a guy in front of a Congressman’s office with a gun random. I don’t care where the shot “landed”. If his intent was to shoot a gun in front of Cantor’s office, he should go to jail.

Sounds like someone sending the highest ranking Jew in the Congressional hierarchy (House minority whip) a message.

Couple of weeks back somebody sent the highest ranking Mormon in the Congressional hierarchy (Senate majority leader) a similar message by staging an accident that could have killed his wife and daughter on I95.

So, Pelosi would be the highest ranking Catholic, and who might be the highest ranking Protestant?

It would not be irrational to find those people had been attacked.

Another gift from the President's friends in AlQaida ~ or maybe Iran ~ or could it be the Congressional Black Caucus! It was just this Saturday several of them organized a disruption hoping to demonstrate their opponents to be racists (it failed BTW).

They're making it look like Americans are doing the attacking.

Even the local Fox radio station reports that the shot was “random”.

Also, the Reagan Building in Richmond, Va is listed in Wikipedia as a building honoring Ronald Reagan.

Think Cantor’s office and that building might draw a shot from a left wing extremist?

Fox News reported it as random. Fair Balanced and Unresearched.

Might be random, might not be random. Not enough info to reach a conclusion.

Without knowing the caliber, type or load of the weapon, nor the type or location of the building, I’d like to point out that the trajectory of a bullet with a low to medium load and normal sighting is to arc up for 1-2 hundred yards before entering its downward trajectory. If you do a street level view, you’d find that it would be very difficult to intentionally fire from the distance required to have a downward trajectory while simultaneously not having enough power to even penetrate the blinds. Ergo, it probably had to be fired from a distance and was a probably just a random shot.

Why draw the conclusion not knowing key facts about the situation?

actually, if you consider a small caliber such as a .22, fired from a distance, a double insulated plate glass window, and metal hanging blinds, it seems possible to me it would move the blinds and fall downward, unlikely it would just penetrate straight through the blinds.

We don’t know enough, but this was a preliminary police statement, it did NOT say what AP, FOX, etc. reported.

Further, I just listened to the prayer vigil held by tea partiers at Carnahan’s residence, the coffin symbolizing the death of freedom. Yet that incident is being listed among the “death threats”.

>> actually, if you consider

The arguments against intent based on the blinds and published evidence are weak.
