TRICARE & the National Health Care Bill (No age 26 insurance for military kids)
Tricare ^

Posted on 03/25/2010 8:45:50 PM PDT by TexasBeth

Will TRICARE be changing based on the new health care reform legislation? This legislation does not affect the current TRICARE benefit.

Will children now be eligible for TRICARE until age 26? TRICARE is not currently affected by this provision. Our current age limits are set by statute, so separate legislation is required to change them.

By law, TRICARE covers eligible dependent children: 1) Up to the age of 21, or 2) Up to age 23 if they are: a) Enrolled full-time at an accredited, higher education institution, and b) Reliant on the sponsor for more than 50 percent of their financial support

Coverage ends on the child's 23rd birthday or at the end of that school year, whichever comes first. Learn more about eligibility for children.

My son is in the Military. He believes that Tricare will be there for him when he needs it. I tried to explain to him that Obama will eliminate all other care within the next couple of years. There will be no Tricare, no Medicare, just the welfare care of all by the US Government. I am heartbroken for our Military and their belief that the word of the US Government is it’s bond. Our Government has no conscience anymore. No care for living up to it’s commitments. Only a massive giveaway of our collective wealth. Obama is bringing the USA to it’s knees and, when we are completely broken, he will bring in his Socialism and will rule as the dictator he is.

Thanks, JJ, for the ping.....I am sick over all of this. And twice as sick over the treatment of our military and their families.

I did not get the details - but I heard that Congress passed an exemption for Tricare after they passed the bill the other day.

Don’t know if it covered the kids up to 26 ...

It's still stalled out in committee (HR4923).

"Latest Major Action: 3/24/2010 Referred to House committee. Status: Referred to the House Committee on Armed Services."

Thanks for the ping.

I'm stunned about the passage of this monstrosity. Still trying to absorb what just happened to our country because of this.

It's maddening to see that many just don't have a clue. They are just totally ignorant of the ramifications of the passage of this law.

But, I suppose if they "feel" good, it's all okay. /s

Here’s my perspective, fwiw: Let’s DON’T insist that Tricare lower its standards to meet the private sector.

I am retired military, married to retired military, five grown kids between us. If they are not done with college and/or up and out by age 23, we’ve failed them.

Or they’ve failed themelves and don’t come crying to us for a bailout.

OK, that’s assuming there still IS Tricare in a few years, which I doubt.

I completely agree. This was brought to my attention by a Gold Star wife. Her kids will be just fine. Nobody hates this bill more than she does. She just wanted to point out the fact that military kids were not included.

We have Tricare, which has proved to be a blessing with its affordable rates, I did not think that Obamacare would leave Tricare unscathed. I just don’t trust this administration.

‘Can I expect my TRICARE enrollment fee, premiums, deductibles or co-pays to go up because of this legislation? There is nothing in the legislation that would change any TRICARE fees.’

That still doesn’t answer the question of the NEW BIG FEES passed in the 2009 DOD bill, that go into effect in 2011.

Does OBAMANATIONCARE negate the BIG NEW FEES in the DOD bill? Just because there are no new fees in OBAMANATIONCARE doesn’t mean that they aren’t still in the 2009 DOD bill.

This option would help reduce the costs of TFL, as well as costs for Medicare, by introducing minimum out-of pocket requirements for beneficiaries. Under this option, TFL would not cover any of the first $525 of an enrollee’s cost-sharing liabilities for calendar year 2011 and would limit coverage to 50 percent of the next $4,725 in Medicare cost sharing that the beneficiary incurred. (Because all further cost sharing would be covered by TFL, enrollees could not pay more than $2,888 in cost sharing in that year.) http://www.cbo.gov/ftpdocs/99xx/doc9925/12-18-HealthOptions.pdf
