Rand Paul Fundraises: ‘The Neo-Conservatives Are Running Scared’
Washington Independent ^ | 3/23/10 | David Weigel

Posted on 03/26/2010 5:19:48 AM PDT by SJackson

Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) sends an email to his Campaign for Liberty list keying off of (though not explicitly citing) Jonathan Martin’s report on neoconservative Republicans fundraising to defeat his son, Kentucky Senate candidate Rand Paul.

“The Neo-Conservatives are running scared,” writes Paul. “They are ramping up their attack machine and pushing every dime they can to Rand’s opponent.” Going slightly off of Rand’s message — he’s been very successful convincing conservative voters that he’s not going to become a rabid anti-war vote in the Senate — Ron promises supporters that his son will “vote against undeclared wars.”

The email:

Dear Supporter,

Sunday, Government rammed the Health Care bill down our throats. But today is a new day.

Today is the day we tell Washington once and for all that we suffer their abuses no longer.

Today is the day we start the journey to reclaim our health freedom.

Today is the day we come together to send the strongest Constitutional Conservative we have seen in a generation to the United States Senate.

My son Rand is winning his race for United States Senate. He is up in the polls and has a strong plan in place that will take him to victory. That is, IF he has the money he needs to fully fund it.

The Neo-Conservatives are running scared. They are ramping up their attack machine and pushing every dime they can to Rand’s opponent. Rand can win, but he needs your help.

If we come together today and raise $300,000 for Rand, he will have the money he needs to blow the Neo-Cons out of the water. He will be able to stay aggressive on television, and fund all of the mail and direct voter contact he needs to carry our message to the finish line.

Imagine a Senator who votes against all unbalanced budgets and fights to preserve Liberty… a Senator who will work to restore fiscal discipline and vote against undeclared wars and insidious corporate bailouts. Rand will be that Senator, but he needs your help NOW!

Please go to www.RandPaul2010.com right now and contribute to the Rand Paul “Give Me Liberty Money Bomb.” We can come together and begin to take our Liberty back. With your support, Rand will win and We will win.

In Liberty,

Ron Paul

Given the resident of the White House and composition of Congress, you'd think he'd be over the neoconservative/Likud thing by now.

Why doesn’t Rand speak for himself?

I can’t help but be a bit concerned the kook Papa Ron will be pulling Sen. Rand’s strings.

Have you ever watched the Austin Power’s movies? Mini-Me doesn’t talk a lot.

I am not a Paul fan, but “not voting for undeclared wars” would go a long way to winning my support. Not all Libertarian concepts are foreign to this conservative!

Fundraising, you cater to the demons of your supporter.

The silliness of Paul’s “undeclared wars” position has been beaten to death here, but I will note that’s a talking point, Ron Paul voted for an “undeclared war”

Fundraising, you cater to the demons of your supporters, and pop has the list and clout. Like the DNC raising money to combat right wing violence.

I think there are a lot of Americans (myself included) who supported those undeclared wars in the mistaken impression that we were going to fight to win.

Instead, we had three years of muddling around in Iraq (finally corrected, and I'm not sure it was the President's initiative) and eight-plus years of muddling around in Afghanistan.

Had I known then what I do now, my support would not have been nearly so strong.

How can anybody trust libertarians when their favorite
“son” loads up legislation that he knows will pass and
gives the pork while giggling “I voted against it.”?

Probably because a Neo-Con is just another form of Liberal...

If you are Neo in anything....you are not real, genuine, or what you claim to be....hence Neo-Con

The fact that Paul is clobbering Greyson (Mitch “I swallowed by chin and backbone” McConnell’s boy) tells me that Kentuckians are getting wise to the Liberal Neo-Con nonsense

Not taking issue with anything Paul does or doesn't do, wasn't my point. As a veteran of an "undeclared war" I am simply opposed to sending our best and bravest to fight in them. That is the only point I was attempting to make.

Thanks,
Greg

What does Rand say?

No, it isn't.

The term "Neoconservative", and the definition thereof, was adopted by Irving Kristol to describe himself and those of his own political persuasion, as distinguished from Liberals and traditional Conservatives.

If NeoConservatism were in fact the traditional form of American Conservatism, Kristol wouldn't have had any need to promulgate the term as a description of his own brand of political philosophy. He could have just called himself a "Conservative".
