Danger Ahead: Obama Jumped the Shark, But Didn’t Drown
Pajamas Media ^ | March 26 | Kyle-Anne Shiver

When the beloved American sitcom of the 70s, Happy Days, was shedding viewers faster than Obama has recently shed supporters, the show’s writers got desperate. So desperate that they dressed the public’s favorite character — Fonzie — in his best leather jacket, swimming trunks, and a pair of water skis for a vacation scene. Fonzie, the hero’s hero, encountered a shark, whose ominous fin was big enough to fit a man-eating monster the size of a whale. But Fonzie was not deterred. He blithely jumped the shark with water-skiing prowess the likes of which had never been seen. It was a stunt fit for Evel Knievel.

Viewers were not as desperate to save Happy Days, however.

Instead of propping up the show’s popularity, that scene became memorialized by Americans as the symbol of pure, pitiful, downright embarrassing desperation. The rational viewer’s willingness to suspend disbelief to jump-the-shark levels was tested past the breaking point, and the show became the water-cooler joke of the decade. A far, far cry from what the erstwhile writers had intended.

What we have here in America today is a real-life jump-the-shark drama, starring a super-narcissistic president so desperate to create his own vainglorious legacy that he is willing to destroy his own political party and do enduring damage to his country in pursuit of his purely selfish ends....

Good article, especially the quotes from Lenin, but I hope I never see the term ‘jump the shark’ again.

fricken awesome

What we have here in America today is a real-life jump-the-shark drama, starring a super-narcissistic president so desperate to create his own vainglorious legacy that he is willing to destroy his own political party and do enduring damage to his country in pursuit of his purely selfish ends.

Standing in arrogant defiance of the will of the American citizenry, Barack Obama — Narcissus incarnate — pulled every dirty trick in the corrupt politician’s playbook to save his floundering presidency for the glory of the five minutes it took him to sign his ill-gotten prize.

If that glory was all it was, who would care?

Sadly it’s more than that, it undercuts those
principles on which our country was founded
and propogates the malaise that continues to
sap our national strength.
If this administration would clear the decks
of the untoward obstruction of business and
the overweening effect of enviromental activists
the economy would come roaring back.

This is a great article. Thanks for posting. I discovered Kyle-Ann Shiver (along with Selwyn Duke) on RenewAmerica.com, and have been following both of them since. Here's Selwyn's post for today that hasn't gotten many hits (I posted it on FR earlier), but really needs to be read by those wanting to correct the "ills" in America today. It's a great read as well. Our problem is a lack of health care -- the moral variety

Not exactly accurate in the depiction of Happy Days. The Shark Episode was episode 89 out of about 250 episodes. The show at the time was in the top five in the ratings. The show lasted another 6 seasons and was in the top 20 most of the time. Even the worst rated season was in the top 30.

The jump the shark thing refers to the accepted consensus that the writing of the show really declined around that point. Fonzie became a cartoon character, the writers brought in an alien (Robin Williams as MOrk) and generally the attempt to capture ‘50’s teenage life in an “American Graffiti” way was abandoned.

Many “jump the shark” moments in other programs were desperate attempts to hang on as portrayed in the article, but the actual moment in Happy Days occured while they were still on top.

In spite of himself, Obama has become the one conservatives have only dreamed of — a single man who would perfectly display the despicable picture of tyranny for the American people. Thanks to Obama, the citizenry have clearly seen the horrendous beast of tyranny for the first time in more than a century.

I wouldn't be so sure of that. The only way the average American is going to see that beast is through the MSM - as long as they continue to run interference for Obama, the only people who are seeing through him are the ones who already knew what he was...plus a small number of relatively intelligent independents who now realize they have been fooled. The rest seem all too willing to accept the MSM's characterization of Obama's opponents as "mean, selfish racists."

I may be pessimistic, but I unfortunately agree...

I can almost see a positive here...

Let’s say Republicans kick the democraps out of Congress, take total control, and then REPEAL the health car LAW.

Obambi will be so marginalized he would be useless

Heck someone might even ask him for his birth certificate.
