WASHINGTON Florida voters have turned sharply against President Barack Obama, Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson and a sweeping health-reform law they helped push through Congress, according to a Mason-Dixon poll released Saturday.
The statewide poll of 625 registered voters found that Obama's favorable ratings have plunged to 37 percent from 50 percent when he was elected in 2008.
Nelson's favorable ratings dropped even more dramatically, to 36 percent from 54 percent when he was re-elected in 2006.
The health-care bill passed by Congress and signed by Obama was supported by only 34 percent of Floridians in the poll and opposed by 54 percent. The bill was especially unpopular among senior citizens, a big voting bloc in Florida.
The results spell trouble for Democrats in this year's elections. The findings reflect the angry and fearful mood of the electorate, particularly in growth states beset with widespread joblessness and housing foreclosures.
"It's a foul mood toward incumbents in general, but Democrats are going to take the brunt of it," said J. Brad Coker, managing director of the independent polling firm. "It could dissipate. A big turn in the economy, a drop in unemployment that gets people a little happier, would take the edge off this. But I don't think anybody is predicting that big a turnabout between now and November."
Obama and Nelson don't face the voters until 2012, giving them plenty of time to regain their political standing.

I would like to see Jeb Bush challenge Bill Nelson for the Senate in 2012. That will be a Battle Royale that Jeb can win. I don’t know if Jeb is up for it, though.
I think Nov. 2010 is going going make 1994 look like a walk in the park for the Dems. The GOP is going to take both Houses.
Obama and Nelson don’t face the voters until 2012, giving them plenty of time to regain their political standing.
Eternity would not be long enough for that to happen.
The Slime Slantinel newspaper is to the left of the NY Times. People hate this illegal law.
I agree with every word you posted.
If you are sick of polls, the best thing to do is just ignore them.
I live in Florida, and the Senior Citizens won’t be forgetting the Medicare cuts and loss of Medicare Advantage. And they do vote.
The Sun Sentinel newspaper that I have been reading for the last several years is left of center but well to the right of the New York Times.
I loathe Bill Nelson. I will do all I can here in Florida to get rid of him in 2012. He is a fox in sheep’s clothing.
Yes, the moderate mask got ripped off Bill Nelson’s face with this health-care. I would like to see Jeb Bush back in public office, but he may not want to be a Senator . . and his last name prevents him from being the President or VP.
I thought Medicare Advantage had a loop hole for FL only. Which is violates equal protection.
As far as the Scum Slantinel. I read it many years ago and it was a decent paper in the 1970s.
That would be great. I think Jeb Bush would make an excellent Senator.
Giving the maoists plenty of time to pass more harmful legislation that is designed to destroy America.
“Nelson’s favorable ratings dropped even more dramatically, to 36 percent from 54 percent when he was re-elected in 2006.”
LOL! I loathe that pretend hillbilly fraud and POS. Hilarious. NASA is TOTALLY screwed thanks to Obama. Bill Nelson is a evil fool like MCCAIN.
Let’s focus on electing Rubio, McCollum and defeating Grayson, Kosmas, Boyd and other House RATS.
If this anger remains hot for the POTUS election in a couple years....Obama is toast.
Retirees of America should be very very worried about Obamacare.
As myself approaching that time in my life I see nothing positive about an upcoming retirement.
If anything it may force me to move to another country where even a small income of several hundred dollars a month will allow you to survive in modest comfort.
However my Spanish is terrible.
I agree about Jeb. This Nelson, though, has shown his true colors during this healthcare travesty and way before that. Look at his voting record. He is a dirtbag hiding behind his innocent southern accent. He is a liberal through and through.
No more liberal media/liberal posters attempting to choose our conservative candidates.
We can find more conservatives like Rubio!
