I was sitting in the airport bar in Lyon, France in April 2001. Something came on the TV news about a US recon plane crashing in China and George W. Bush not caving in to their pressure. I do not remember the specifics but do remember hoisting my bottle of Heineken high (I do not drink French beer) and saying “I am finally proud to be an American again!”
