I rather prefer Jean de Vallete the Grand Master of the Knight Hospitaller in the siege of Malta. At 71y/o he led his knights in the defense of Malta against the Islamic horde of Turgut Reis. Much of the fighting was close up and personal. He led from the front and knew how to meet fire with fire.
