Volunteer force of Mexico border watchers disbands
The Washington Times ^ | March 30, 2010 | Ben Conery and Jerry Seper

The Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, which posted hundreds of civilian volunteers along the U.S.-Mexico border over the past five years, has disbanded, citing what it called "rising aggression" in the country and decisions by lawmakers in Washington who have "pushed amnesty down our throats."

"The mental attitude of many Americans is turning meaner … and we are concerned that this could cause problems," MCDC President Carmen Mercer told The Washington Times on Monday. "You see aggression surfacing even at the tea party marches. We just did not want to deal with the liability anymore.

"We have to protect the ranchers as well as the volunteers," Ms. Mercer said, noting the killing on Saturday of Robert Krentz, a prominent Douglas, Ariz., rancher who was shot along with his dog on his ranch by a suspected illegal immigrant who fled into Mexico and remains a fugitive.

Born in April 2005, the MCDC — originally known as the Minuteman Project — called for the U.S. military to be assigned to protect the southwestern border from terrorists, illegal immigrants and drug smugglers; sought increased manpower for the U.S. Border Patrol; and opposed the granting of amnesty to the millions of illegals who already have entered the country.

The MCDC vowed to fight a proposal by President Obama to try to get a bipartisan immigration bill passed this year that would establish a path to legal status for the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants in the country.

At one point, the organization had a roster of about 12,000 members. In May 2005, then-U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Commissioner Robert C. Bonner praised the Minuteman movement, saying it was aiding the effort to prevent terrorists and terrorist weapons from entering the country by reducing the flow of illegal immigrants and disrupting smuggling operations.

From the article:

Ms. Mercer, a Tombstone, Ariz., restaurant owner, said that although MCDC was dissolving, the organization's chapters and various offshoot groups would continue to organize border watches. She blamed Republican lawmakers such as Sens. [Juan McLame] of Arizona and Lindsey Graham[nesty] of South Carolina for offering to work with Mr. [0b0z0] on immigration policy and weakening border controls.

Messages left Monday seeking comment from the offices of Mr. [McLame] and [Miss] Graham[nesty] were not returned.

Alterations made by poster. Paging the McLame watchers...

So why did the Minutemen feel the need to throw the Tea Party-ers under the bus?

“So why did the Minutemen feel the need to throw the Tea Party-ers under the bus?”

There seems to be a concerted EFFORT to discredit the Tea Party....from all angles.

None of this smells right. Right after healthcare passes against the wishes of the American people, the Democrats start a campaign to smear the image of the opposition, first by creating false accusations of violence against the tea partiers, then (look at the timing) raiding the militia (some of the milita leaders may be nuts, but I wonder whether the charges against them are not exagerated). Finally Ms Mercer of the Minutemen puts out a call for more volunteers to “lock and load”, and then they immediately announce that they will disband (again look at the timing). I think that Napolitano got the go ahead to threaten the leaders of the Minutemen that they would be held criminally responsible for any violence that might occur, as part of the Democrats bullying and image smearing campaign. How much violence has occurred in this country due to tea partiers, militia, border patrol? How much due to radical Islamists? Napolitano and her boss are biased against true Americans, and the progression of events over the last week are ominous. Who burned down the Reichstag in the 1930’s and then blamed it on their political opposition?

Well, it looks like we lost what was left of the border...

No Fence, No Electronic (high tech) surveilance monitoring of the border, and now, now eyes and ears on the ground, worth a flip...

Sorry BP folks...You are now missioned to fail, no matter how hard you work at it...

Amnesty will certainly be the “thing” the liberal-statist absolutely need to save what they can in both houses in November...

After that, we might as well erase that silly line on the maps and globes...

"None of this smells right"

I don't know about you people but I'm getting tired of loosing every fight the conservatives are in.

The Health Care issue was one thing but this "illegal" issue IS our country. We will no longer be the USA.

Watch for prosecutions for the busted windows & obscene phone calls . If none appear then that is proof of a put up job by the democrats ie they did the vandalism themselves for propaganda reasons. Sadly the GOP is to much the party of country clubbers & pansies to state this publicly.

I might be wrong but I did not read it that way. Perhaps it was just very poorly worded (or reported).

I took it to mean that there has been aggression AT the marches, but not by the marchers. The few incidents of aggression that have been documented has been by SEIU.

I hope that is what they meant.
