YEP...I would think someone like you (working family) could prove that thru your IRS statements....sooo...a husband and wife who are paying taxes would NOT be part of the “children” exemption.

Currently you can’t claim anyone over the age of 16.

What!?

Noooo...the 19th amendment (if I’m correct) refers to banning a particular sex from voting....there are women who work, or are party to (married) working husband. So, no that wouldn’t work. Not all women are users and scammers.

Seriously though, my husbands company has literally 100's of kids that will take advantage of this new law. Guess what that will do to our overall coverage?

I fully expect that during next years renewal, the company will now have to charge for each dependent separately. Instead of family coverage, we will have employee + extra for each individual. We can't expect the company's to just absorb these costs.

active military is an authorized activity listed in the Constitution - there are several explicit clauses about raising an army, navy and equiping them. So they should have a say - they are not “on the dole”.

My comment was mostly about the pensioners, but yes nobody should be disqualified because they are drawing a military pension.

Suggestions?

More of a question: Are you similarly willing to fight tirelessly to remove voting rights from anyone who receives any sort of government assistance, or just adults who had no say in a law being crammed down their throats?

My oldest is 21, has traveled internationally, graduates from college next month with honors, and will either be starting graduate school in the fall or will be doing two years of humanitarian work before returning for her PhD. She's been accepted to some of the best schools in her field and has permission to delay based on her previous accomplishments.

She's managed this while working at least one job, performing an internship, and doing substantial charity & volunteer work.

Why do you want to single out and punish adults of this caliber for the decisions of the government which are out of their hands? She's arguably several times more productive and responsible than many other adults, regardless of age.

Also, are you willing to push the age of service up by 9-10 years (from 17-18 to 27? And are you willing to extend the age at which a person can join from 42 to 51-52? We can't have children serving, after all.

So...has she received gov’t assistance? Maybe there’s a way to figure out HOW much gov’t assistance is TOO MUCH? Lots of questions....and I do NOT have all the answers. It was posed as an exercise in analysis....thanks for your questions.

No, she hasn't receive any sort of government assistance. She has worked at a public hospital as one of her jobs, but the key word there is *worked*. It doesn't pay well, is hard, and the hours have been bad sometimes, but it gives her needed experience and she has enjoyed it.

She has received merit scholarships which almost completely paid for her tuition, books, etc. She paid a substantial amount of the remaining herself, and we happily picked up the rest. She is responsible, mature, and is thankful and grateful for what she has. She is in no way expectant or demanding.

She plans to work her way through graduate school, which is what her dad did. He completed his degrees with no debt or loans.

I understand where you are coming from, though. I don't want to reward irresponsibility, and think that people who are dependent on the government to a great degree probably don't possess the skills needed to make good judgments. I'm bothered by the way the system is structured, too. The government seems Hellbent on "helping" people who show no responsibility and punishing people who are responsible by making them pay taxes to finance the first group.

Being responsible and self-sufficient is its own reward, though, which is what we try to instill in the kids. Being dependent means a person can never truly be an adult. They owe everything to the largess of others and will never be able to call themselves free.
