VANITY....need to CHANGE Age of Majority to 27

Posted on 03/30/2010 1:16:56 PM PDT by goodnesswins

With the initiation of so many benefits to "children" up to the age of 26, I believe it is time to create a movement to change the Age of Majority in this country to 27....yes, I borrowed this from a caller to Rush today....but, I think it's a great idea. Maybe we can start at the STATE level with this???

Here's my thoughts....add yours....

1) No "child" under age 27 will be allowed to...

VOTE

ENTER a CONTRACT

DRINK alcohol

Have medical procedures w/o parental approval

UNLESS...

A) they are military

B) they work fulltime (over 1800 hours per year) and pay taxes on that work

Will it be a crime to sleep with 25 and 26 year old women?

What I want to know is can these so-called 26 year old children still be claimed on their parent’s taxes?

The government would love to establish a permanent “adolescent” populace.

Why punish just the young?

More appropriately:

No Representation without Taxation.

In other words, if you are a net drain on society-No Vote.

I just think the age of majority should not be graduated. Either someone is an adult or are not.

anyone who receives money from either the State or Federal government, or a subsidy of any kind - not eligible to vote.

And I mean everything - subsidized loans, grants of any kind including grants to an organization which you work for, transfer payments, salaries, pensions, benefits - everything. If you are benefiting from taking money from your neighbors, why should you have a say at all? You are a dependent who cannot stand on their own and cannot be trusted to make an honest assessment on the size and scope of the government.

Exceptions: those tasks specifically and explicitly enumerated by the federal or state constitution.

I think the longer we make them "basement rats", living with and being supported by, their parents, the slower their rate of maturity.

I was married at 21, I HAD to grow up fast...but looking back now - even with a wife and kid in my early 20's I made lots of stupid decisions and mistakes.

I think I would round it off at 25 years old.

That’s backward from how the founding fathers got it.

If the age of majority is raised to 27, how would they ever qualify for this exemption:

“A) they are military”

Or would minors be allowed to join the military under this proposed new rule?

I think that the cutoff age should be 20, after you turn 20, you are an Adult, PERIOD.

Also how about making it so that anyone who is claimed as a Dependent of the STATE is not eligible to vote as this constitutes a conflict on interest.

Not at all.

It is a play on their famous rallying cry during the Revolution, but the vote was originally intended only for males of means, that is those that had a stake in the welfare of the country.

Many of the early leaders were also wise enough to be very averse to the idea of a true democracy (Jefferson being a notable exception), in which entitlement-minded rabble could vote themselves all sorts of government favors and programs. SOund familiar?

So no, it is very similar to what the Founders intended.

And a parent as well. If someone needs to be supported by someone else then that person is not qualified to decide how money earned by working people is spent.

Or married to one of the above...

I know I was darn proud to get out on my own and off my parents’ insurance as soon as I possibly could. I was married and had had my first child by 26!
