GOP fires Allison Meyers as strip-club scandal taints party
Christian Science Monitor ^ | 03/30/2010 | Dave Cook

Posted on 03/30/2010 4:01:53 PM PDT by iowamark

Allison Meyers was director of the GOP's Young Eagles, a group that wooed young donors and visited a strip club in Los Angeles – racking up $1,946 in expenses that the party initially reimbursed. The scandal could hurt the GOP in three ways, in particular.

Allison Meyers, the director of the Young Eagles, a Republican program aimed at wooing donors under 45 years old to the GOP cause, was fired as a result of the strip-club scandal that has embroiled the party this week, according to media reports.

The Republican National Committee reimbursed about $2,000 in expenses rung up by the Young Eagles at a Hollywood nightclub featuring topless dancers and bondage outfits. Ms. Meyers allegedly approved the expense.

Fallout could affect Republican fundraising, particularly among its fiscally and morally conservative small donors....

Alienating small donors

"Already we see big donors avoiding the RNC like the plague. Instead they are giving to the Republican Governors Association,” says Reid Wilson, editor of... Hotline On Call. “That is going to hurt Republican efforts to retake the House and pick up Senate seats in November. Big donors don’t trust Michael Steele, and stories like this scare small donors away.”...

Steele had already alienated some major donors with his spending. He held the party’s winter meeting at a beachfront hotel in Hawaii and drew criticism for delivering paid speeches and writing a book while drawing a salary from the GOP...

Mike DeMoss, a longtime RNC donor, told Politico that, “The RNC cannot attack Democrats for how the government spends taxpayer money when it is spending Republican donor money recklessly. Recent RNC spending stories suggest a tone-deafness at best and a misappropriation of funds at worst.”

Confirming tea partyers suspicions

The nightclub flap could also hurt Republican efforts to reach out to "tea party" voters...

C’mon. Big freaking deal. We slit our wrists over a staffer who had a lapse of judgment about where to entertain and get into a crying jag over Steele and the RNC?? People, look at what the Opposition does when some nitsh*t like this comes up. They ignore it and plow on or blame it on Bush. They do not eat their own over the big stuff, let alone something like this.

The bad thing about an affirmative action hire is that if they turn out to be either disappointing leftists (like Obama) or ineffective (like Steele), it's darn hard to get rid of them.

Anyway, now we know what the RNC has been doing with our contributions.

Apparently... half the money, they've spent on strip clubs and cheap whiskey.

And the other half, they wasted.

If Lindsey Graham wasn't there, I'm assuming they were female. I can only hope.

It's actually much worse. Most of the money goes to the political whores known as consultants and media.

Hardly. Crossover Rats are responsible.

Fred Thompson's fan dance kept other conservatives from developing any momentum. Once he was in to divide the vote, he waited until McCain was a lock and bowed out.

The biggest piece of it goes for more junk mailings.

Indeed. All with various choice cuts for the vendors, of course.

I hope you’re wrong. If not, we really are screwed because there certainly aren’t enough conservatives for us to win any elections.

We’re called “conservative” for a reason. When the Bush family said they like hotdogs, we thought “great”. When Zero buys expensive food, we are furious.

We don’t like to see $2,000 wasted. That money was contributed to defeat democrats, not for smut.
This is a good time to examine Steele as RNC leader. This is the kind of machine he’s running? Is this the tip of the iceberg?

How can this fool relate the way RATS spend public money with the way that a private group spends private money. If he believes that the DNC doesn't waste at least $2K, he is naive. He needs to wake up and smell what he is shoveling. I seriously doubt that he is a GOP donor.

I personally think that Steele should go, not due to this issue, but because of his ineptitude.

It's interesting to see the liberal media lapdogs show fake outrage, that is missing when a true scandal hits their own party.

I agree. $1900 and a strip club?

If it were $19k, a gay strip club and drugs were involved-then I would blink.

But she was stupid-she should have paid for it herself.

I REALLY doubt this is the very first time this has ever been done and it’s only a story because it’s the RNC.

Obama, Pelosi, Reid.....have done FAR, FAR worse than drop a couple G’s in a titty bar.

Time they’re fired. I hear the clamor in the media for just that; don’t you?

Perspective, people.

That is actually a very interesting idea...

I would not say that Steele is a rank amature, he is cut from the same cloth that has compramised the parties efforts in many elections since 2004...So yes, he needs to go...

Not sure if Fred could re-vitalize the base in time for November, but there are people he could get into play, nationally, that cold keep people focused on November and getting it done for the party...

Just expanding on your idea I hope...

I asked this same thing on another thread, yesterday.

What is the process for firing the RNC chair?
