I have been studying the phenomenon of the "Gun Free Zone" and after much analysis have discovered the group of people from whom we are being protected. The Venn Diagram at the left is my representation of some groups of people in the United States. The overwhelmingly larger group is the sensible, law abiding majority that wouldn't shoot you if you made a really bad cup of coffee, or cut you off in traffic. Even if you stole the parking place one of these people were turning their car around to get, they would not gun you down. These people know that dead is forever, and guns are for keeps. They reserve the use of deadly force for truly life-threatening situations and they have proven, on balance, that they can recognize these when they occur.
The red circle represents that small portion of humanity that regards everyone but themselves as expendable. When pushed far enough, they go nuts and throw all civility and humanity out the window. They go get a gun and perpetrate murder. Even if they have to drive all the way home to get their gun, they are so mad they won't be dissuaded from their goal. They will plan and wait weeks or months if need be. They also don't think "Gun Free Zones" apply to themselves, and might be carrying a weapon in the gun free zone.
The tangent point between these circles represents the crowd that we are being protected from by gun free zones. Normally they are law abiding and thus don't carry weapons into a posted gun free zone. These folks, howerver, have incredibly hot tempers and amazingly poor judgment. They also have no ability to think of consequences past the immediate moment.

Now, if they’d only make Murder Free Zones..............
Lol, in the hood, if you want to find the sign with the most bullet holes in it, its the gun and drug free zone signs.
In fact, it could be argued that such zones would in-fact attract armed criminals. Criminals would appreciate the fact that while perpetrating a crime in a "gun free" zone they would be far less likely to come across an armed citizen.
For this very reason (and to promote 2nd Amendment rights), I avoid "gun free" zones and do not patronize businesses nor activities in such zones. I don't think you are any safer in them, in fact I believe you are actually less safe in them.
Great article and right on the point.
I recall back in the eighties, armed, violent carjackings were the rule of the day in Miami, with several occurring every week and tourists in rental cars being targeted in particular.
Then Florida passed a concealed carry law, and carjackings virtually stopped overnight. I guess the locals decided they couldn’t be sure if that cute little blond in the Beemer was going to blow their head clean off, and figured they better find another line of work.
That’s one of the beautiful things about concealed carry; the ones you need protection from are never sure just who might have a little friend tucked away...
Here's a question I have: WHY has government, especially at the federal level, done everything it can, for decades now, to stand in the way of our God-given right to have the means at hand to defend ourselves and our loved ones?
Other than "government is all about power and gun owners represent a degree of power that government just can't handle..." I have no clue.
“Gun Free Zone” - “Shooting Gallery”
A Gun Free Zone sign beside your front door is going to stop a terrorist from crashing an airplane into your house?
True, most “Gun Free” zones are foolish. But what really pisses me off is Gun Free zones that are, in themselves, illegitimate.

Now, justify the existence of the latter whilst considering the first sentence of the former.
