Energy: As the administration loosens restrictions on domestic energy development and offshore drilling, a reviled company develops technology to unlock America's vast shale resources. Drill, baby, drill.
We have been among President Obama's harshest critics when it comes to the administration's overly restrictive energy policy, so we were pleasantly surprised to see him announce on Wednesday some light at the end of the pipeline.
Some light, for many restrictions will remain in an energy policy best termed schizophrenic.
Speaking at Andrews Air Force Base near Washington, D.C., Obama announced the welcome news that his administration will let lease sales go forward for oil and gas exploration off the coast of Virginia. This is the first sale of offshore leases in the Atlantic in two decades.
The Interior Department will also allow seismic exploration for oil and gas in the Outer Continental Shelf from Vice President Joe Biden's Delaware to within 125 miles of the southern tip of Florida. Hopefully, our drilling will start before the Russians, Chinese and Cubans do.
Some restrictions remain, too many in our view. While allowing an expansion in Alaska's Cook Inlet, the president, joined by Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, announced that proposed leases in Alaska's Bristol Bay would be canceled.

Obama should have lost the trust of 100% of all Americans with a brain when he signed the Porkulus.
He talked about “exploration”....NOT drilling.
Im sorry, but if Obama announced that the sun would rise tomorrow - I would have my doubts.
I get the feeling that this drill for oil thing is just another worthless political stunt.
You’re right on both counts.
Feints are maneuvers designed to distract or mislead, done by giving the impression that a certain maneuver will take place, while in fact another, or even none, will.
Obama mentioning offshore drilling is a feint.
Period.
I was listening to Mark Levin tonight on the way home from work. I was stunned at what he said .. but I can clearly see that he’s probably correct.
What he said was basically this: This is a game, because Obama has already made a plan with the EPA (and given them standing to sue), that as soon as Obama made the announcement about the drilling, they were to file their law suit.
The reason they are doing this is to make the drilling a moot point. It gives Obama cover - because he can propose the drilling (and look like a good guy) KNOWING IT WILL NEVER COME TO PASS .. BECAUSE .. BECAUSE .. WAIT FOR IT .. BECAUSE THEY WILL TIE IT UP IN COURT FOR YEARS AND YEARS AND YEARS.
Mark went on to tell that this was going on when he was working for Reagan. It was just that Reagan wouldn’t play their game.
So .. if anybody was the least bit excited about our being able to drill baby drill .. don’t waste your time.
This is just more of the left’s total deception - and they think we’re too stupid to figure this stuff out.
can he just say, drill here ?
can he just say stop logging ?
or say go ahead and mine coal ?
can the president say go ahead with whale fishing ?
can the president say stop driving cars ?
WTF ? is he some kind of omnipotent king ? ? ?
He thinks he is.
This is a CYA moment as the Price of gas will be shortly going back to 4.00 a gallon. He can then crow that he is allowing off shore drilling,For his FRIENDS in the Oil industry I might add
It’s a ploy , not real , don’t even worry about it . He’s a sneak and a liar. It’s how magicians fool you . You watch one hand while he pulls the switch with the other.
Watch him closely , you’re going too get screwed while you are watching him play games with off shore drilling.
The problem isn't us, the problem is the vast majority of the American public that get their "news" from state run media. And also rinos that still want to "get along, to get along" will use things like this as cover for their sellout votes in support of more destructive policies.
The way things are going now, I would have to say that this is absolutely the most efficient and effective effort that the federal government has ever undertaken -- their coordinated effort to destroy our economy, our culture, and our country is moving forward with lightening speed and devastating effectiveness.
