WASHINGTON (AP) - Top Republicans are starting to worry about their health care rallying cry "Repeal the bill." It just might singe GOP candidates in November's elections, they fear, if voters begin to see benefits from the new law.
Democrats, hoping the GOP is indeed positioning itself too far to the right for the elections, are taking note of every Republican who pledges to fight for repeal. Such a pledge might work well in conservative-dominated Republican primaries, they say, but it could backfire in the fall when more moderate voters turn out.
At least one Republican Senate candidate, Mark Kirk of Illinois, has eased back from his earlier, adamant repeal-the-law stance. And the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, which fiercely opposed President Barack Obama's health legislation, now urges opponents to pursue a "more effective approach" of trying to "minimize its harmful impacts."
For Republicans, urging a full repeal of the law will energize conservative activists whose turnout is crucial this year. But it also carries risks, say strategists in both parties.
Repeal is politically and legally unlikely, and some grass-roots activists may feel disillusioned by a failed crusade.
"It's just not going to happen," Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., said of repeal in a speech Wednesday. "It's a great political issue," he said, but opponents will never muster the 67 votes needed in the 100-member Senate.
Over the next few months, Democrats say, Americans will learn of the new law's benefits, and anger over its messy legislative pedigree may fade.
Republican leaders are moving cautiously, wary of angering their hard-right base. In recent public comments, they have quietly played down the notion of repealing the law while emphasizing claims that it will hurt jobs, the economy and the deficit.

It's not “hard right” you 0bamabot idiots. It's an overwhelming 59% of voters who are against 0bamacare, and that poll is from CNN, a strongly pro-0bamcare outfit.
Votes for repeal will become a badge of honor. Like votes for the impeachment of Bill Clinton.

Furthermore, there will be no repeal while Obama is president. No matter how many seats the GOP wins in November they won't get a veto-proof super majority. So the whole premise is bullshit anyway. Yet again a no-win strategy for the Stupid Party.
Maybe the Tea Party is needed since suddenly it looks like the GOP is losing its balls.

The Tea Parties have been the ones that have taken the fight to 0bama since last year. The GOP itself were like deer in headlights after 0bama took office. So it’s not anything new for the Tea Parties to continue taking the fight to 0bama over repealing 0bamcare. It’s merely business as usual.

The only benefit that will kick in is the massive tax hike. Handouts to the idiots who voted for these dims won’t see there cut until after the 2012 elections. This needs to be repealed before more people are added to the government handout on the backs of those 80 - 90% who might still be working to fund this monstrosity of government takeover.

Nevermind the polls, nevermind the public outcry against this bill, nevermind that the benefits do not kick in until 2013, oh no somehow it is the Republicans that are in trouble. Yes, backfire, I see that or not.
Let me get this straight. The A freaking P who routinely prints that up is down and down is up puts out a story like this, quoting “some Republicans” ignoring the polls, living their fantasy labelling all who oppose this law as gun touting racist extremists. And your response? To buy what the A FREAKIMG P sells you hook, line and sinker.
That sucking sound is republican spine imploding. On the “men” is a dual part of their anatomy imploding.
We need to fight the idea that the greatest healthcare system in the world is dead because just they passed this bill.
It can be repealed if people see it as saving our healthcare system. Also, the Dem’s argument is that no entitlement has been repealed before but that’s when people thought they were getting something for nothing.
Not the case here, most people know they’re getting less than they already have for an astronomical price. And the only thing anyone’s really getting for the next few years is steep increases in our premiums, higher taxes from everyone, and the destruction of the greatest healthcare system in the world.
Hasn’t happened yet though and can still be stopped if these politicians would just understand that this is NOT politics as usual. This bill was passed by bribes and deals to get it done and they had to use Reconciliation (also never done for major legislation before) to get it done even then.
Let’s turn the conversation around, give the people hope that we can undo this.
Is anyone surprised at Mark Kirk? Their is a conservative prolife libertarian Mike Labno in the race. We don’t need back stabbing big government social liberals like Kirk. We have an opportunity to restore liberty this Nov and there is no reason to be ashamed of our conservativism. The weanie liberal only ended up winning the primary because he refused to debate.
