The two things are not unrelated. Bush took on the domestic political gamble impolicit in the Iraq war, that the political left in the US would crucify him and his party for it. The resulting election of the most radical congress and executive is the direct result.
History will show if Bush’s choice was right. Right now it doesn’t look good, particularly if we get a worse Israeli/Iranian situation, but then the slow realization that the cuurent administration is dangerous, could finally eliminate the radical left influence at the polls.
