U.S. Democrats lie low after healthcare victory

LOS ANGELES, April 1 (Reuters) - The week after passing landmark healthcare reform and handing President Barack Obama an important victory, members of the U.S. Congress returned to their home districts for a recess to face constituents and justify their votes after the bruising legislative battle.

While Obama made flying visits across the country to tout the new legislation, a number of key Democrats, who led the charge for healthcare reform, seemed to keep a low profile and are doing little to beat the drum.

Republican lawmakers, however, made quick plans to harness what they see as voter discontent over the issue -- either by lambasting those Democrats who may be politically vulnerable or by shoring up their own shaky campaigns with criticism of "Obamacare."

While healthcare reform was thought to be a defining issue in congressional elections, many experts believe it may lose steam by November and prove less important for voters than unemployment and the economy.

Before public anger over healthcare fades, Republicans from veteran senators to freshman congressmen were racing to get their message out at the outset of the two-week spring recess.

This was what the "violent TEA Party" thing was all about, it gives the chicken$h!+ dems cover so they have an excuse to NOT have public townhalls while on break.

Cowards all...they should change their symbol from the jackass to a chicken.

No, no Dems go home for the Easter break with signs plastered on your cars and jets: I voted for health care and I’m D*** proud to have done so.

Take videos and photos of crowd reactions, I need some humor in my life. :)

What more can you do (politically speaking) when the wishes of the majority have been made clearly known, they admit that they know it, and they ,i>still</i> vote against the consent of the governed? I know there is non-political recourse, but I don’t believe enough Americans will ever rouse themselves to that point, especially the growing minority of those who are addicted to government crack (which minority will soon overtake the taxpayers/producers from whom they steal, especially if amnesty is rammed down our throats just like DeathCare was, only this time with “bi-partisan” support). The tyrants in DC have just learned, through this test case, that they can get away with dictating to Americans, they only have to be willing to take a short-term political loss. Even if the Republicans were to retake the majority, does anyone suppose that the rats haven’t already devised their meme for the those two years, characterising the Republicans as “obstructionist”, “racist”, etc? We already see the groundwork being laid, with media complicity, with the slandering of the Tea Party movement.

Since Congress wants to pretend they did’nt hear the will of the American people, collectively while in session...they’re gonna get the opportunity to do so personally, at home, in their districts. One -on-one...

i don’t blame them for skulking around....let each of them spend the rest of their lives hiding....

So I see in Colorado where Betsy Markey, a vulnerable Dem if there ever was one, is plastering the airwaves with ads proclaiming "she stood with the people against greedy Wall Street interests". And what's more, she has your best interests at heart!

Amazing! I'll bet no one here knew that!

CA....
