To use a medical analogy, under medical privacy laws, your hospital cannot divulge one bit of your medical information without your written permission.

Which means that when you go to the doctor, there is yet one more form to sign, that gives them the right to do whatever the Hell they want to with your medical information. And don't even think about not signing that form. No tickee, no shirtee!

Really?

" ..... gives them the right to do whatever the Hell they want to with your medical information"

What Planet do you live on?

I live on the Planet where a HIPPA violation has the Feds on you like a pitbull on a pork chop.

Penalties Under HIPAA

Please post the language on the last form you signed that allegedly gave your doctor " .... the right to do whatever the Hell they want to with your medical information".

If you don't want insurance to pay your bills, don't use insurance. Pay the bills yourself and don't sign the form authorizing release of information to the insurance company.

If you don't want your wife to pick up your medical record, pick up your medical records yourself and don't sign the form authorizing her to do so.

If you don't want a second or opinion or a referal to a specialist, fine. Don't sign the permision forms for release of information to the specialist.

I, personally, don’t care what happens with my medical information. If you want to view the video of my last colonoscopy, be my guest. It wasn’t that interesting, even for a colonoscopy.
