The McCain Mutiny: A maverick fights for his political life—and his soul
Newsweek ^ | 2010-04-03 | David Margolick

Posted on 04/03/2010 3:58:32 PM PDT by rabscuttle385

Late last month, at a dusty fairground outside Tucson, John McCain stood behind the person who is, at least for the next few years, surely his most important legacy to American politics. And speaking to the adoring mob, Sarah Palin stood behind John McCain, repaying his inestimable gift to her in the most compelling possible fashion: by helping him to survive.

(snip)

Many, many years ago she'd competed in a beauty pageant, Palin declared, as women howled (and a few men growled) approvingly. McCain would surely win the talent and debate portions of any such contest, she went on, but no way would the Washington elite and "pundints" and "lame-stream media" ever crown him "Miss Congeniality"! "He's never been a company man, he's never been one to just 'go with the flow,'?" she crowed.

(snip)

...Palin had apparently missed the real message this electoral season in Arizona: for his three decades in Congress, McCain hadn't gone with the flow enough, at least not enough to satisfy many Arizona Republicans. Why else would his rival, former congressman J.D. Hayworth, be billing himself as "the consistent conservative"? Many of the GOP's most faithful, the kind who vote in primaries despite 115-degree heat, tired long ago of McCain the Maverick, the man who had crossed the aisle to work with Democrats on issues like immigration reform, global warming, and restricting campaign contributions. "Maverick" is a mantle McCain no longer claims; in fact, he now denies he ever was one. "I never considered myself a maverick," he told me. "I consider myself a person who serves the people of Arizona to the best of his abilities." Yet here was Palin, urging her fans four times in 15 minutes to send McCain the Maverick back to Washington.

It will come to a shock to some when they find out, McCain isn’t running for President in 2012.

The PaulBots who post as if he is or post bashing Palin via McCain are disingenuous to say the least.

The main thing the PaulBots hate about McCain is his support for the war against the IslamOfascists since
the PaulBots believe we are the cause of the war.

I would not support any of them for POTUS especially over the list I provided and dozens of others I could thing of. I would take Boehner, MCConnel, Coburn, DeMint, and tons of others over them. The question is do you support McCain. This is a thread about slimy McCain and you two obviously support McCain. He has done so much damage and you are a lightweight if you cannot figure that one out.

LOL, you’re a broken record, and you don’t even have the courage to state who you support for the GOP nom.

You repeatedly and poorly attempt to divert attention away from Palin's association with a flaming socialist.

You'd take McConnell or Boehner over Sarah?

You're kidding, right?

McConnell is not much better than McCain, and Boehner is weak on several issues.

Coburn maybe, DeMint, absolutely, but your other two picks are absolute losers when it comes to be POTUS material.

And what posts do you have to support your statement that either Ansel12 or SoCalPol have ever supported McCain?

None.

You repeatedly and poorly attempt to divert attention away from Palin's association with a flaming socialist.

Once again, a PDS sufferer giving absolute proof of the associated trait of constantly using deceitful debating tactics such as Extreme Hyperbole and False Labeling.

Oh, and before you accuse me of being a McCain supporter, check my posting history, after Rabscuttle385, there has not been a more avid McCain antagonistic.

Well she's joining a whole bunch of faux conservatives then, including JD Hayworth:

Hunter endorsed Huckabee
Tancredo endorsed Romney
DeMint endorsed Romney
Pawlenty endorsed McCain
Thompson endorsed McCain
Newt endorsed Scozzafava
Santorum endorsed Specter
Rubio endorsed Huckabee
Santorum endorsed Romney
Scott Brown endorsed Rommey
Ann Coulter endorsed Romney
Mark Levin endorsed Romney
Dick Cheney endorsed McCain
Thune endorsed McCain
Jindahl endorsed McCain
Huckabee endorsed McCain
Bachmann endorsed McCain/Palin
Ron Paul endorsed Chuck Baldwin
Ron Paul endorsed ralph Nader and Cynthia McKinney
Ron Paul endorsed Bob Barr
Paul Ryan endorsed McCain for President
Rick Perry (Governor-Texas) endorsed Rudy Guiliani
Peter King endorsed Guliani
GWB endorsed Spector
Santorum endorsed Spector
DeMint endorsed Graham
JD Haworth endorsed McCain
John Thune endorsed McCain
Sheriff Joe Arpaio endorsed Romney
Coburn endorsed McCain

Of course JD gets it:

BLITZER: You know that Sarah Palin who was his running mate says she's going to support John McCain and try to get him that nomination instead of you. How do you feel about that?

HAYWORTH: Well, I think we all understand the impulse of gratitude in politics and obviously Senator McCain, one of the decisions I applaud him for was putting Sarah Palin on the ticket. I think it gave great excitement to the Republican base and I can understand why she's coming here. But what's interesting, Wolf, in the social media, as I understand it, there's a new page on Facebook, Sarah Palin fans for JD but in the final analysis, it's not Sarah Palin from Alaska, It's Sarah Boyd in Scottsdale and others like her. Arizonans will decide who will be the next senator from this great state. And there's this gem from JD:

VIDEO:"I look forward to having Mrs. Palin's support following the primary on August 24th."

More Saul Alinsky tactics using insults and baseless accusations in the absence of refuting the fact Palin is supporting McAmnesty over the Conservative candidate.

Better re-evaluate your list buddy. Seems the ones you'd support are all RINO lovers too, including McCain endorsers:

Hunter endorsed Huckabee

DeMint endorsed Romney
Pawlenty endorsed McCain
Thompson endorsed McCain
Newt endorsed Scozzafava
Santorum endorsed Specter
Rubio endorsed Huckabee

And you refuse to acknowledge two facts:

1. Sarah supported McCain BEFORE Hayworth even declared.

2. JD has no problem with Sarah supporting McCain and would love her support when he wins.

So there.

Amnesty was Reagns greatest sin and in my mind kept him from being a truly great president. Being of advanced age I remember the debate around amnesty and the final outcome with some sadness. I argued then it would only lead to more illegals and would drive the social services cost through the roof. I was right then I am right now. Reagans amnesty was the sugar the brought the 10’s of millions that are here now. Do it again and the progression will be geometric and it will be the end of the union. Not only will the left end up with an unsurmountable voting majority consisting of a state defendant class Obamas drive to redistribute the wealth will collapse the economy completely and we will all be standing on corners for day jobs. Immigration is the “no forgiveness” issue for me and it should be for all thinking conservatives.

PS I didnt llke TEFRA either

You dont know jack, Jack.

I am well aware of who Sarah endorsed in this election, and I understand her decision to do so. I don’t have to agree with every single move a politician or statesperson makes, nor would they expect me to.

I support Sarah Palin. Who do you support?

1. Sarah supported McCain BEFORE Hayworth even declared.

So your logic is to remain with a socialist even though a conservative enters the race.

2. JD has no problem with Sarah supporting McCain and would love her support when he wins

Who else will she support if that should happen?

Actually, he was called “John Wayne” by his friends at the Academy, but it doesn’t matter. His family is from Mississippi (still owns the property) so his membership in the exclusive Alfalfa club isn’t surprising, but it’s probably not a well known fact either.

Wow, that's deep. Good for you Saul!

I don’t have to agree with every single move a politician or statesperson makes, nor would they expect me to.

You're right. Amensty for illegals, that threatens our national security is a minor issue.

I support Sarah Palin. Who do you support?

Is she running for office in Arizona?

Wow, all you do with that sort of deceitful comment is further emphasize my comment to you concerning your usage of Extreme Hyperbole.

In case you forgot, the following is your comment:

You repeatedly and poorly attempt to divert attention away from Palin's association with a flaming socialist.

So McCain is a flaming socialist?

You don't find that type of statement to be Hyperbole?

And mind you, I have been one of the most vocal of McCain detracters on FreeRepublic.

I know the man's record.

I also know he is reliably a social conservative.

I also know he is somewhat of a fiscal conservative.

His record is mixed on this issue.

But to call him a flaming socialist is an out and out LIE!
