from related article regarding fuel efficiency standard:

In a best-case scenario, the Obama Administration says that its regulation will increase the price of a car by $1,100 per vehicle. Other estimates are much higher—a study by Global Insight found that this kind of regulation would increase power-train costs by $1,000 for small cars and $5,000 for larger vehicles.

And IER further observes that this is likely to kill 50,000 more jobs in the auto industry (this is before increase in corn/gas)

Obama administration admits new fuel efficiency standard will raise new car costs $1,100+ thread

They have the auto industry jumping through hoops. Our quality of life is under attack with this administration. We will have fewer choices and less money left to run our own lives

Makes as much sense as promoting car-pooling while mandating reduced vehicle sizes.

I think ethanol as a motor fuel is a mistake, but not because it gets less miles per gallon than gasoline. Ethanol weighs less per pound. It has less carbon atoms per pound. A proper comparison with gasoline would be the cost per a given amount of power generated.

The environmental and long-term availability issues of all motor fuels are factors to be considered.

Diesel fuel is more dense than gasoline (has more carbon atoms). That’s part of the reason diesel engines get better mileage per gallon. The higher compression ratio of the diesel engine is the other.

Another of the ever-increasing examples of how socialism sucks.

Kindly do not interrupt energy-rant threads with thermodynamic facts.

It is well known in environmentalist circles that all energy will soon come from wind, solar, and tidal power. It is also known that the use of toilet paper destroys Mother Gaia's finite forest resources because Amerika uses too much of her finite resources, which are soon to be exhausted. Fortunately Global Warming will wipe out the human infestation of this planet, beginning on 12/21/2012.

If you do not believe me, ask a movie star.

But if you are stuck with ethanol then sugar cane converts a lot better than corn.

LOL. That's why the Bacardi family makes rum instead of corn likker! Ethanol is also a highly useful industrial product. Witness France turning it's million-gallon annual bad wine surplus into brake and hydraulic fluid.

Environmental Extremists Making Regulatory Policies?

These unelected bureaucrats, headed by EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson, have no regard for or understanding of property rights, free markets, or our economy. It’s all about worshiping at the altar of “climate change” and offering penance for America’s high standard of living by attacking industry in the name of “justice”.

I don’t think the EPA should exist. But of course, I’m just a “kook” for asking about the constitutionality of its existence.

Yeah, you seem have no concern for us taco eaters. All you care about is the Constitution! We need corn, too.

That happens all the time. The citizens get guilt tripped eco-style into using less water. Then the rates get jacked up. The slugs in gubbermint refuse to work on a smaller revenue stream

The same with cigarettes. They shame smokers into quiting and when the tax revenue goes down they jack it up tremendously. Gasoline also.
