Transparency, Obama-Style
Wall Street Journal ^ | April 5, 2010 | John Fund

Posted on 04/05/2010 12:22:18 PM PDT by Plutarch

President Obama prefers to interact with questioners on his own terms. That means almost no prime-time news conferences -- he hasn't given one for more than nine months. Instead, he obviously favors any forum that allows him to give long, discursive answers without being subjected to follow-up questions.

A prime example came last Friday during his appearance at a North Carolina battery manufacturer. A woman named Doris asked the president during a Q&A session whether it was a "wise decision to add more taxes to us with the health care" package. "We are overtaxed as it is," she concluded.

That set President Obama off on a 17-minute and 12-second riff that must have put the crowd into a stupor. His 2,500-word answer was more than three times the length of a typical op-ed piece. His response wandered from issue to issue and was filled with Washington jargon. "Boy, that was a long answer. I'm sorry," he concluded, drawing nervous laughter. "I hope I answered your question."

As was apparent to all who listened, his filibuster had only served to avoid addressing her concern. He never explained why his health care bill ended up raising taxes on those making under $200,000 a year -- a violation of his explicit 2008 campaign pledge.

Indeed, President Obama is clearly avoiding any forum where he can be pinned down with tough questions. (His recent Fox News interview with Bret Baier was an exception the White House has regretted.) ... Chuck Todd, ...of NBC News, explained: "The president likes to give long answers. He hates the short formats in general."

So far, Washington journalists have been quite passive in letting the White House choose the terms of its interaction with the public... Would a conservative president get such an obliging ride from the normally aggressive Washington press corps? Probably not.

John Fund notes, as did the Washington Post, that Obama's answer was discursive.

dis·cur·sive

Passing aimlessly from one subject to another; digressive; rambling.

The word discursive needs to be hung around Obama's neck to describe his meandering filibuster non-answering style. The word perfectly describes what Obama does, and the Obama people can't deny it or run from it (or call it racist). Every conservative comment on Obama's communication needs to describe Obama's responses as discursive, until Obama is known as The Great Discursivator.

Doris: "We are overtaxed as it is..."

Obama (the short answer): "you are not entitled to your own opinion..."

This is it. The brilliance we’ve all missed. He has the ability too talk for such an extended period on any question that the questioner not only forgets the question but just begs for the answer to stop. Garden variety politicians just dodge artfully. Obama actually inflicts pain and makes anyone who questions his policies regret asking.

Like all lying bull..—ers, Obamao is afraid of being tied down with real facts and the truth. He prefers to ramble around it. The other thing sharper members of the press are finding out is that Obamao isn’t as smart as he is supposed to be. To make bad worse, Obamao is delusional from a lifetime of anti American indoctrination, and his best trait is his complete inexperience and lack of qualifications to be president. We would be worse off if Obamao were a little smarter and more capable of bringing the destruction he hopes for.

"The president likes to give long answers. He hates the short formats in general."

Short formats imply that you have thought through your answer. Long answers imply that you have thought through your answer, thought through how the answer will be received and try to interject extra information to make sure that all who are listening to the answer know for certain that you have considered all possible angles to the ramification to what you are saying, even though most people just want the bottom line and have been bored to tears just like the poor folks who are trying to read this post to understand the miserable point that I am trying to make concerning our pointed miserable president.

QED.

It is like the Jeopardy style meeting. Obama just throws out answers to the questions he wants to answer. From now on I say that Obama just start the discussions and we have the crowd try to give the Jeopardy answer. That way at least we will have an idea as to which question he wanted to be asked.

BO DA is completely incompetent.

When the press said president Obama was “discursive”,
he replied, “Discursive? There’s nothing wrong with my
handwriting!”

Time to start using the Alinsky Rule on ridicule: when Obama becomes ‘discursive’ interrupt and say: “nevermind the BS, Obama, just answer my GD question”

It’s a YES or NO question GENIUS. Honestly, I don’t know why he doesn’t just say “no, the people aren’t taxed nearly enough” and be done with it. The media wouldn’t ever report on it and would actively hide it while accenting the latest Brangenlina / Brittany / Kate + 8 shennanigans.
