WASHINGTON (AP) -- Amid unrelenting criticism of how the Republican National Committee has spent donors' dollars, Chairman Michael Steele on Monday accepted the resignation of his chief of staff and allowed one of his senior advisers to exit the inner workings of his political machine. The turnover hinted at future changes that some top Republicans hoped would include the chairman himself.

One of the really bad things about elevating an unqualified individual, who, like Steele, happens to be a minority, to a conservative leadership position is that once his unfitness for the position becomes apparent it is extremely difficult to remove him without charges of discrimination and racism being bandied about.

Steele’s problem isn’t that he’s a RINO. His problem is that his primary job is to market the GOP brand. He’s so consistently embarrassing that if he were a plant by the Democrats to purposely cause damage... I don’t know what he would do differently.
Well, I hope even those living in their mom’s basements take issue with race hustlers calling them racists for criticizing poor performance.

Actually, the exact opposite is true. One of the biggest myths is that independents lie “between” Republicans and Democrats. They don’t. They respond very well to well articulated, principled beliefs. They respond very poorly to “inside the beltway” double talk.
This is the real reason behind Reagan’s appeal, and also why neither Bush was ever able to really win them over. RINOs lose, unless they are well established or have an easy opponent. Conservatives win, despite the fact that they receive little support from within the party.
