You shouldn’t be such a cynic! The finals were played by 10 great kids. There were no “one and done” players in either group. My husband and I noted that they were a diverse group which is unusual these days. All good students, nice kids. Really fun to watch.

Butler with all of its 1 star players almost pulling it out against at least 5 5 stars, and bunch of 4 stars, Burger Boys, Parade All Americans and they still needed the officials help.
it doesnt matter what duke does in the offseason, unc with barnes,marshell, and bulluck is just going to blow the doors off of duke next year, if singler and smith knows whats best for them they will get the heel out of unc’s way next year and they better take the plumblee brothers with them because this is going to be a massacre for the ages for coach k, hes going to pay back for running up the score on unc this year, and dont think that roy will let his foot off the gas pedel because hes going to remember the 40 point whipping coach k put on us this year and we will turn it around next year, beat duke by 20 in cameron and beat duke by 30 in chapel hill because duke will lose all of its starting 5 to the nba this year and coach k is going to be facing the same kind of challange roy williams faced this year, 20 wins by duke next year at the most!
Last night was a “Tin Cup” moment. Butler ‘won’ many hearts.

Absolutely... Butler shot about 3 times as many free throws in the 2nd half as Duke did. I thought the Heyward charge was a bad call but other than that it was pretty clean They let 'em play. Great game.
As for whining about any specific plays that "changed the game," etc... I'll tell you like my Peewee hockey coach told me: "Your job is to put the game out of reach of the other team and the refs. If you leave the game close enough that either one can steal the game from you, then you have failed, not them!"
It was a great game, and no one cheated or was favored...

There is a BIG difference between the students and the faculty (probably true at most schools!). My son was a student at the time and he was most decidedly supportive of the LAX players. The students saw through the BS right away.
Your statements may be correct, but there is no objective, visible, evidence to support them.
Once upon a time students (of a different political persuasion) had Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) units, ROTC scholarship students, and military recruiters run off of and banned from their campus.
Coach K is a graduate of West Point and served as a commissioned officer in the United States Army. He KNOWS the meaning and value of Duty, Honor, Country.
Coach K is important enough and revered enough at Duke that he could have said: "They go or I go!"
Where is the group of wealthy and influential alumni donors (the same ones who routinely get a football or basketball coach fired after a losing season) who should have marched into the Administration building and told President Brodhead and the Gang of 88 that either their shelf life had just expired, or contributions to Duke would be non-existent for the remainder of the employment of any one of them at Duke.
Faced with a wealth of simple, legal, and easily implemented methods to force President Brodhead and the Gang of 88 permanently off campus, those who claim they supported the lacrosse players did -- nothing.
Where were the en masse refusals by the students to sign up for, attend, or pay for any class taught by the members of the Gang of 88?
Where are the sheet posters and banners of "Shame" and "Apologize" displayed on the balconies of the football stadium and hung from the rafters of the basketball arena?
If the students can festoon the campus with pink ribbons, "Save the TaTas," and "Save Second Base" posters to support breast cancer research, how come there isn't a lacrosse stick permanently attached with epoxy cement to the front door of the residences, classrooms, and offices of President Brodhead and the Gang of 88.
Why isn't the campus a continuous sea of "WE ARE DUKE LACROSSE" T-shirts?
How about a public, perpetual, prayer vigil with at least one Duke student praying in the chapel at all times for the contrition, healing, and repentance of President Brodhead and the Gang of 88?
The students should have demanded:
The immediate reinstatement of Coach Mike Pressler.
President Brodhead and the Gang of 88 to attend every single lacrosse game for the next four seasons, stand on the sidelines for the entire game, with placards around their necks stating: "We were wrong and we apologize."
President Brodhead and the Gang of 88 each make an immediate cash contribution of $100,000 to Duke lacrosse and donate 50% of their gross compensation from Duke for the next four years to Duke lacrosse.
If the school refused to comply, the students should have left Duke en masse and finished their studies at another college, with honor.
The tragic part is the students have no comprehension as to how President Brodhead and the Gang of 88 have demeaned and devalued the Duke diploma for which those students are working so diligently and paying so dearly.
A few years from now, when they are sitting in a job interview for a position they would really like to have, I hope they have prepared some excellent responses for some very tough questions regarding their ethical failures and complacency in this matter.
That’s a nice speech but not very practical. Plus you are ignoring events that did take place. The girls’ LAX coach was outspoken in her support for the mens’ team as were all of her players. I know what was going on at the school b/c my son was a student there at the time.
The students all wore bracelets with the numbers of the 3 accused players until it was all settled. They defended the players to any who questioned their innocence. Coach K was also supportive of the LAX players although b/c of his position he had to be more conservative in his statements. His program builds fine young men not just future NBA players.
To suggest that the students should have stood up and walked out to another school is absurd. That’s about as practical as the poster here that keeps suggesting that Duke leave Durham. Give me a break. My son had (has) wonderful friends from Duke. They are probably closer than most b/c of what they experienced there. You can’t just walk out of a top university and expect to walk in to another, equally top notch school. It doesn’t work that way. Transferring is difficult, time consuming, risky from a credit standpoint and subject to deadlines. If you recall the situation, the party was over spring break in mid March. Did you honestly expect the students to walk out mid semester? That’s what I would call biting off my nose to spite my face. Plus, where were they supposed to go? All the Ivy’s are as bad or worse as are all of the other well regarded schools nationwide.
They also chose to stay- not cut and run. By staying and supporting the LAX team, they showed courage.
As far as the donors are concerned, the annual fund took a big hit as a result of the faculty statements and attitudes. Hank Woods did his best to keep pace but there were too many alums who refused to give after the debacle.
I wonder how long it has been since you were closely involved with today’s universities and colleges. Three of my 4 children have already graduated. One is still in college- at Carolina. Was I proud that members of the BC faculty stood with their backs to Condi Rice at commencement? Certainly not. College is the last bastion of the Far lefties. All the schools are populated with them. Duke has its share but is no outlier. One of the worst faculty members in the LAX affair went to Vanderbilt. Do you now blackball them, too? If you look at the faculty at nearly all colleges you will be disgusted by their politics. That doesn’t mean they are not qualified to teach. It just means that I will never vote their way.
My own alma mater- Univ of Colorado, was very left wing when I was there and that was in the 70’s.
I don’t think it does any good to make grand speeches about Coach K walking out or the students leaving. That’s just bluster in my opinion and doesn’t change a thing.
Totally agree. No one is mentioning that the reason Hayward was open for that last shot was that Howard had literally tackled Singler at mid court. I also agree that the refs let it get out of hand. I told my husband that at the half. They should have clamped down on it early and not allowed it to get so physical.
