Authorities foil an attempted kidnapping and murder, with the Zapata County Sheriff's Department arresting five men believed to be drug cartel members.

The Zapata County Sheriff's Department received information on Friday that five men were planning a kidnapping in Zapata.

The sheriff along with Texas Rangers and Border Patrol set surveillance for two days at a mobile home, on Saturday deputies saw a vehicle they believed to be connected delivering food to the home.

Deputies conducted a traffic stop and arrested 30-year-old Arturo Cisneros of Zapata, for no driver's license. Also 33 year old Ariel Perez Mendoza from Toluca, Mexico, who was turned over to Border Patrol due to his immigration status.

Inside, there were another three men and according to authorities they were about to allegedly kidnap the person. 21-year old Adrian Gonzalez-Morales, 26-year old Severiano Gallardo-Solanco, and 28-year old Juan Carlos Hidalgo Gallardo, all of Acapulco, Mexico on charges of attempted kidnapping and organized crime:

"We were able to corroborate that they were in fact in the country to commit a kidnapping and murder of somebody from Zapata, that supposedly stole their marijuana load."

According to the Zapata sheriff, the victim says he never stole any load.

The sheriff is still investigating the case and treating it as an attempted kidnapping.

According to the sheriff the whole gang belongs to one drug cartel.

He says this is the first time a case like this happens in Zapata:

"I asked the residents of Zapata County to remain vigilant as always. There is no immediate threat to anybody that we know of."

This case is currently under investigation with the Texas Rangers and the Zapata County Sheriff's Office.

If you have any information, you can call 765-9960.

More arrests are pending.

Nope, can’t be true. We were promised the cartels would keep their thugs and bullets on the south side of the border.
