I saw an article in the past year that talked about recent research into how the Sun might play a role in the seismic activity of the Earth, but I couldn’t find it. The article I posted was the only thing I could find quickly.

Here is something a little more recent.

Yeah, all our wonderful records will be lost (at least, in large part).

My guess is, the ancient folks used a LOT of perishable materials to record info, and 99+ percent of it has been lost. Tamil books were written on dried large leaves and sewn together; after decades or perhaps centuries of use, they’d be re-transcribed onto fresh leaves. Shakespeare’s scripts probably went up in the Great Fire of London which was within human memory of their original performance, and all that was a mere four centuries ago. Meanwhile, the bureaucratic records of the same time — the ones which didn’t go up in the Fire, or offsite copies of those that did — still exist. The Linear B archive at Pylos (and the LB tablets from Crete) seems to contain terse, even non-grammatical, records of produce of the provinces, no literature at all.

Look at the records left of the zeta-pinch aurora that dates from around 10/11K BC. There are literally millions of examples from all around the world.

Good call. The EQ was closer to Toba than to Krakatoa, and the former was the all-timer.

I think you do it in your photo program, and then click on “save as.” Something like that. I don’t do it very much any more.

You might appreciate this then.

Go to http://www.wolton.net/quake.html

Download the FREE program. It only takes a few seconds.

Then RUN IT. Play with the controls, it is AWESOME!

Yes, like being on a boat. I told someone else that. My mind could not grasp fully that it was an EQ because of the rolling and the way it went on so long. Then, the water came splashing up out of the pool all over the deck. That continued for at least 10 minutes after the initial tremor. Even for an EQ veteran like me, this was different...

If you are doing html, just size the picture by adjusting the width, like this...(Ignore the dots.)

<.....img src="picture url"width=300>

“Wow, these EQs are getting stronger....”

Sure are. I can make them bigger if you want.
