And what really irked me is when Obama segued off into his, "um, I was more of an Oakland A's fan...." the announcer didn't jump in and ask him, "who was your favorite A's player, then?" It would have been great to see him pressed: "Just name one player, Mr. President." Of course, no broadcaster who wanted to keep his job would do that.... but it would have been nice.
Funny, I haven't watched baseball in thirty years, but I can still remember the players I watched as a kid-- I can remember who played nearly every position on the team I followed in the late 1970s. I suspect for a lot of people (even non-sport fans as adults, like me) those childhood baseball memories are particularly vivid.

Obama could have at least referenced the greatest moment in White Sox history — Robin Ventura getting his brains pounded in by Nolan Ryan.

He just says he's a Sox fan to suck up to black people in Illinois. Nobody in Illinois except for Chicago Southsiders are White Sox fans.
See that little spot right on the South Side of Chicago? That's the extent of the Pale Hose fanbase. That and North Minneapolis.
