I can't imaging it's up to me to fix this stuff. I've called for excommunication for the perps, but were told all the quirks and reasons that won't happen. The "legalists" will come back with some 15th century writings by somebody that say I'm wrong and the Church is doing what it's supposed to do, but each day there is a new outrage that isn't being addressed. I've pointed to the splits in the Church and am told there is none. I have made the statement that the "Phleger" types are now the majority and am told, "Not in my Parish!"
I have come to the conclusion that Catholics are asleep, content with the "knowledge" that Hell will not breech some gate somewhere. Well if Hell hasn't entered the Church, I can't imagine Hell anymore. Putting band aids on gaping wounds with entrails hanging out isn't going to work much longer, I'm afraid.
The facts are, Obama got a good majority of the Catholic vote. Catholics are marching for and having abortions. Many, if not most are for homosexual marriage. Crimes are committed in the Church, and there are routine cover ups. A Catholic in San Francisco is somehow a different bird than one in Kansas or in Venezuela. I doubt if we could get general agreement with someone 500 miles away, let alone 3000 miles away. Is location a reason to read things in the Scripture that are different than Scriptures in another town? Why is Boston morals different than Texas morals?
That was a catchy retort that we should all leave because Judas betrayed Christ, but what has been done to "fix" Phleger?, Pelosi? Biden? Any of the Kennedy's? Crissy Mathews? Any homosexual priest? ( defrocking a priest AFTER being arrested and sentenced isn't the same as the Church acting BEFORE they are arrested)
There are so many issues that are just laying there festering, I can't list them all here. I don't want my money going to Colleges that support abortion or homosexual behavior. The Church could just make a small statement by refusing to allow Obama to speak on OUR campuses.
Maybe you think I'm hypersensitive, but this is all stuff happening in just the last year or so. We are completely impotent if the Church can't deal with a rouge priest like Phleger. It's past time for the Church to act on Pelosi, Biden, Kerry, et al. The "split" is staring us in the face and it will come if these "crimes" against the Church aren't addressed. It's not going to fade away, IMHO.
There are still pockets of the Catholic faith that stand true to the intentions of Christ and St. Peter....but we don't hear about them anywhere because it's 1) not newsworthy and 2) at cross purposes with those that are consciously attempting to bring the Church down.
I have been consistently disgusted with the inaction, from the Vatican on down. Words are not actions! Excommunication is! It needs to be OK’ed by the Big Guy in Rome to start “culling the herds”!
Militant
The Bible states clearly that the Devil entered into Judas, an Apostle, one of the very seeds of the Church. Why are people surprised that the Devil works through men in holy places to try and destroy those holy places? If the Devil could encourage one of the Apostles to crucify the Savior, what's with all the dismay that he entices bishops to crucify him with their own terrible actions?
I'm equally frustrated with the inaction. But, if you don't mind me asking, what are you doing at your local parish level to strengthen the Church? Becoming a catechist? A deacon? An RCIA coordinator to help those entering the Church learn the faith? These macro-personalities - the bishops, the priest like Pfleger, people working at the Vatican, they can disappoint and fail you and me with their personal decisions every day, but the Truth they guard is what we, the Church militant, must bring to the people closest to us and within our own communities. If a math teacher tells me that Che Guevara is his hero, that doesn't mean he no longer has the authority to teach me that 1+1=2.
Focus on the Truth. Be the eyes, ears, and lips of the Lord and share that Truth. God promised to guard the Church from destruction, because the Truth cannot ever be destroyed. The Truth IS, just as God IS. And that Truth is revealed in its fullness in the Catholic Church.
If we're to save souls for Christ, who "thirsts", it begins by evangelizing to the people around us, not wringing our hands incessantly over the failings of our shepherds. We have that Truth. The split comes when Satan goads us into such disillusion, we stop sharing that Truth with others to try and put out a fire that God has already promised will not consume us.
For over 40 years, the smoke of Satan has afflicted the Church greatly from within. Dissent, and the erosive winds of infidelity and disobedience exist. Now the bad fruit of those years is being confronted. Homosexuals are denied entry into seminary. Pelosi or Biden are publicly corrected by Bishops if they misstate Catholic doctrine. Their Bishops privately scold them. The USCCB condemns 0bamacare and encourages the faithful to call their representatives. fr pfleger is an extreme, not a majority. IMO, a majority of ignorant catholics (in name only) who voted for 0bama have had their eyes opened. Notre Dame was condemned by Bishop DArcy for inviting 0bama.
Catholics have been asleep but are now being awakened. IMO, the pendulum is swinging back. Conservative Bishops are in the majority now. Yes, there are still liberal Bishops and administrative staff. Yes, the behavior of Cardinal George is very troubling. The Cardinals and Bishops are supposed to be the shepherds. They are responsible for the flock and this type of pfleger tolerance sows confusion. Perhaps this public event with fr pfleger will lead to his being made an example of by Rome. We are called to Hope arent we?
As a non-Catholic perhaps I shouldn't say anything. But as an ex-Catholic I know exactly how you feel. All I can say is that I am gratified that I am no longer complicit in what is going on.
It's a very sorry situation where someone with such a love of the Church and very natural expectations is accused of bigotry and bashing just for stating the obvious. Thank you for saying what no non-Catholic can say.
Be strong.
Catholics are marching for abortion?
