My grandfather was a farm worker who would make it a point to show up to a job early and start working a half hour before he clocked in, as his way of showing appreciation to his employer for hiring him.

Well I can say that in the days that I worked for someone else I always did more than I was paid for. I figured that was the way up. Doing only what is required of you keeps your job but not much else.
