Walz(D-Mn) Pounded with Health Care Questions

Congressman Tim Walz came to Austin Friday, talking with businesses about jobs, energy, and financial services.

But the hot topic was health care reform.

Super Fresh in Austin was of many stops for Congressman Walz as he checks in with local businesses.

"To get a feel for are people felling optimist are we doing the right things, moving in the right direction so it's just to make sure I’m very, very familiar and in tune with what's going on out here," said Congressman Tim Walz.

Walz recently voted for the health care reform bill, a big topic with local businesses.

"I think its big for America, but more importantly it's big for small business," said owner of Super Fresh, Jim Stiles.

"The system is broken it needs to be fixed but I don't believe government is the one to fix it," said owner of Cedar River Horse Logging, Tim Carroll.

Whether they support it or not, businesses owners are questioning how the bill is going to affect them.

"The law has passed but then you have rules and the rules haven't been put out yet," said owner of Donkers Appliance, Ralph Donker.

"I'm on a freeze, I don’t do anything with my business until I figure out if I can survive or not hiring employees is just not a option until I know where I stand," said Carroll.

And Walz isn't one bit surprised with all the questions.

"We did not do a good job of putting out the information of what's in there and if there's a vacuum and there no information and it was filled with bad data and I don't blame people for being nervous about this," said Walz.

Walz adds main street feedback is something he takes seriously.

"Nothing's carved in stone, we can keep the stuff that works and throw out the stuff that doesn't," said Walz.

In the meantime, business owners say they're reading up on the bill to figure out what's in it for them and what's not.

Remember the saying “It’s always easier to ask for forgiveness than it is to ask for permission”? Dicators have learned this very well. Democrats will just apologize later and the people will forgive them.........that’s what they think but it ain’t going to happen.

“bad data =>the truth about what’s in the bill, or the promise of free health care? Guess it will depend on who he is talking to, the poor or the business owners”

Pret hard for the poor to create jobs - so I guess that jobless ‘recovery’ is gunna continue - huh walzie? Yeah, keep stickin’ it to the ‘rich’ - all those rich small business owners that will not be creating jobs to your district.

Moron.

As can we. As well as corrupt, and a liar. Talking to students about how the debt is bad for them. REALLY Congressman? And what have you done about it - but add to it massively?

Yeah, there are a few, Randy Demmer and Alan Quist are the most known, 3 other GOP ; Jim Engstrand, Jim Hagedorn and Frank McKinzie; Independence Party Steve Wilson; independent candidate Lars Johnson. here’s a short article;

Tea Party questionnaire highlights differences between Demmer, Quist

http://postbulletin.typepad.com/political_party/2010/03/tea-party-questionnaire-highlights-differences-between-demmer-quist.html

The Rochester Tea Party Patriots have posted on their Web site questionnaires filled out by candidates running for the 1st Congressional District and for governor. It is interesting to note that when it comes to the congressional race, only two candidates responded — Rep. Randy Demmer of Hayfield and former state Rep. Allen Quist of St. Peter. You can view these questionnaires by clicking here. There are three other GOP candidates running: Jim Engstrand, Jim Hagedorn and Frank McKinzie. Also running for Democratic Congressman Tim Walz’s seat are Independence Party candidate Steve Wilson and an independent candidate with no party affiliation Lars Johnson.

It is interesting to look at where Quist and Demmer differ on the issues. For instance, Demmer said he supported the Economic Stimulus Act of 2008 passed under President Bush whereas Quist opposed the measure. The $168 billion bill provided tax rebates of $600 to $1,200 to most taxpayers.

They also disagree on whether or not the U.S. should pull out of the United Nations. Demmer says “no” and Quist says “yes.” Demmer does not agree with eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and Quist backs the idea. They both say they do not agree that global warming is man made.

When it comes to the gubernatorial candidate, no DFLers responded. The two GOP front runners Tom Emmer and Marty Seifert did fill out the form. Also filling it out was Republican candidate Phil Herwig, Independence Party candidate Joe Repya (who ended his campaign) and Constitution Party candidate Harley Swarm.
