NEW ORLEANS -- One of the biggest threads of the 2010 midterm elections has been whether Republicans will stay unified enough to win back one or both chambers of Congress. That storyline reared its head today on Day Three of the Southern Republican Leadership Conference.

From the article: Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour even emphasized it in his speech today and said the party needs to be open to candidates all along the Republican end of the political spectrum.
When I heard him say that Saturday, I couldn't believe it.
I wanted to tell him "Are you kidding??? That openness is exactly why we're in this mess."
Santorum, Barbour and the rest of the RNC still don't get it.
I understand. We need to accept RINOs in districts that absolutely will not elect a conservative. Everywhere else though we should not even run one in the primaries. So what’s the deal with Romney winning the straw poll?
So, where are the Barbour for President folks today?
Wow and I really liked Barbour before this statement. However Palin is stumping for McCain, loyalty or no, maybe he felt he had to drop this to keep peace...but it is utter bs.
His organization, as well as Paul's, bought up large blocks of tickets and bussed in supporters to skew the results.
Is This How Straw Polls are won? (Mitt folks buying votes?) [As are the Paultards]
NOPE, they don’t.....and I can ASSURE you...there will be NO UNITY so long as so-called “conservative” Republicans CONTINUE TO SUPPORT AMNESTY-LOVING PROGRESSIVES, LIKE MCCAIN!!
I guess pretty mitt is trying to be cute as well.
We need to accept RINOs in districts that absolutely will not elect a conservative.
Why? How do we know? We need to find Strong, Personable, Attractive, Principled Conservative candidates who can explain what America is Really about, and that is NOT what Obama is trying to do. With the failure of Obama and the Dems, these kind of Strong, Conservative candidates will win in districts where in the past a Republican didn’t have a chance.
...”Palin is stumping for McCain....”but it is utter bs.”
Here’s some more....Michelle Bachmann was just asked on FOX to choose between Hayworth and McCain. She refused. Said they are BOTH “honorable” men. No spine. She’d rather play the game than chose the anti-amnesty candidate!!
I read about that also. No way was she going to endorse Hayworth over McCain. Esp with Palin endorsing McCain.
Barbour seems lost in the early 90's, when Republicans were trying so hard to appeal to the hip, cool PC crowd.
Now in the era of Rush, FOX, and Levin, why are Republicans talking about all this "across the spectrum" crap when the dems certainly aren't afraid of being themselves.
Republicans are either forgetting who they really are, or they're revealing that they never really believed all that Reagan conservative bull, and they'd rather be the country club Rockefeller types, who tell those silly Bible Babblers what they want to hear, but the TRUE goal is to have their pals in D.C. like them and invite them to the good parties.
The bottom line in the article is no third-party conservative split-offs in the general election. I support this position.
The GOP is seeking PARTY unity, not unity of principles. The Tea Partiers are seeking unity of Principles, whether pubs, dims, or indies. The GOP is still trying to get in front of the wrong parade.
Scott Brown won in Massachusetts!
Nuf said.
Rudy Giuliani, why, why, why, is he nowhere in this? I would have bet the farm on him in ‘08. He wasn’t even a long shot.
Scott Brown won in Massachusetts!
Either Scott Brown isn’t a conservative or Massachusetts isn’t one of the places we have to accept a RINO.
OMG, where is it going to end? I have about had it with all of them, clean house!
