You are correct, however they care little about the solvency of the program because they have a gold plated retirement pension as well as Social Security.

Well, maybe. Let's assume they do “pay into” Social Security.

See, Congress doesn't ever need to “get money from” Social Security - EVER! - because their congressional retirement is based on the number of years in Congress and the rate of pay of their last years’ in office. So Congressional retirement is on the order of 100,000.00 to 180,000.00 dollars. Per year.

So why should (the democrats in) congress care about the relative debt of Social Security for the rest of the taxpayers? They will never need it.
