Do Weaver and Cameron have something on the side going on?

"In the past, 'Avatar' would have won because they [Oscar voters] loved to hand out awards to big productions, like 'Ben-Hur.'

Ben-Hur? One of the greatest scripts ever filmed? A breathtaking epic with deep religious meaning. She compares THAT to the drivel of Avatar, a special-effects-driven mess of a script? The effects were incredible. The story left NO ONE satisfied. What arrogance. And did Cameron really "direct" it, or did the WETA programmers? Hurt Locker's script was outstanding. And the director with "breasts" also filmed "Point Break", a great underrated testosterone-fueled action flick. What an absurd insult to a great director Bigelow.

Although I enjoyed the special effects, I found Avatar to be simplistic, poorly written, and predictable. From start to finish it was littered with typical liberal sterotypes of the heros and villians.

Halfway thru the movie I turned to my wife and said, “The military man will be killed by an arrow.”

Liberals are childlike in their thinking.

Both Frank Sutton and Ernest Borgnine served honorably in WWII...Borgnine had actually enlisted in the Navy in 1935, and was discharged just a few months prior to Pearl Harbor. After the Japanese attack, he turned right around and went back in the Navy.

Sutton was actually in the Army and participated in a number of amphibious landings inthe Pacific.

“Those are pics of Sigourney in a wonder bra. Doesn’t count.”

Works for me. To Hell with “lifts and separates.”

Speaking of great movies, I just watched Hud. Outstanding! The movie was well done all around, and the acting was superb; I especially enjoyed Melvyn Douglas's performance, which had Oscar written all over it. Patricia Neal and Paul Newman were also great.

I tried to watch Avatar, but the cartoon before the movie was almost three hours long and I didn’t stick around for the feature.

Um, Sigourney, maybe AVATAR lost because it had a derivative script, wooden acting(including yours), and clunky dialogue. The only saving grace were the visuals, which will be forgotten in a few years when even greater spectacles are produced.

Sigourney is wrong. James Cameron does have breasts, but just like every other man’s breasts they are not functional.

or is the Nanny State that many conservatives love to whine about obama ushering in already alive and well here on "free" republic?

If if were the GOVERNMENT reviewing your comment before it is posted, then you might have a point. But since it is the OWNER OF THIS FORUM (or his designee) reviewing your comment, then your point is fallacious. Welcome to FR. You might want to establish your conservative credentials before you start accusing your host of being a nanny-stater just because he uses a preview process before allowing your comments to be posted.

"...Today it's fashionable to give the Oscar to a small movie that nobody saw."

True, that.

Actually, I think Cameron DOES have breasts, doesn’t he? (not that there’s anything WRONG with that)
