Regime Drops Cancer Victim's Medicaid, Sentences Her to Death
Rush Limbaugh ^ | 4-12-2010 | Rush Limbaugh - Transcript

RUSH: From Ft. Lauderdale: "A woman battling a cancer battle was dealt a surprise blow by Uncle Sam this month. Diana Smith has gone through six months of radiation and chemotherapy -- one week out of every month. She is in remission and had a donor for a transplant; being in remission is prerequisite for the transplant. But her hopes of receiving the transplant were dashed in March, when she says, the Social Security Administration contacted her -- without her soliciting it -- and told her that her three-year-old son was entitled to receive Social Security disability payments. Even though she didn't ask for it, she signed the form and received her son's first check check [sic]. In April, Medicaid canceled her universal health care policy because her income level had risen with her son's payments -- making her ineligible for the insurance program."

CALLER: For 20 years I've been working in the Medi-Cal, Medicare veterans benefit field, and the story you were telling earlier is not an isolated event. That happens, has happened hundreds of times in my career.

RUSH: You mean the government will call, solicit Social Security in this case, Social Security supplemental payment, putting the patient above the eligibility line and losing her coverage from the government, Medicaid?

Snip

CALLER: Right now the VA takes a year to get people medical care in some cases. This is not new. I've been telling people for years that in effect -- I know it's not technically correct -- but the death panels already exist because we have government bureaucrats somewhere sitting in an office who are making health care decisions and life-and-death decisions for people, and they don't know anything about what's going on.

I would like to see the people making these decisions meet the same medical fate as the ones they are cheating out of their coverage.

Hypocrisy.

Rush was vociferously against government control of medicine during the Obamacare debate, but now he's trying to drum up outrage because government isn't going to pay for this woman's care anymore?

Maybe Rush was more worried about the "Obama" part of that name, than the "care" part.

HMm, I would think her son’s disability money would be treated as being his money. As I understand it in speaking to friends who have special needs kids, once your child starts getting social security, parents need to document how the money is spent in case of an audit, however, no one said it would be treated as part of the parents’ income.

She should immediately have her mother or some other close relative adopt the child. Once her treatments are over, grandma dissolves the adoption and the government is checkmated.

I heard this on the show and thought... what an underhanded “Obama-type” thing to do.

Ran into one of my neighborhood women on her walk this morning. She’s about to hit 65 and she’s very healthy...but she can’t find a doctor who will accept Medicare. She said... “don’t cha just LOVE Obama!? What a guy. What a warm, caring POS.”

He’s got to go.

I am sure it will get more news media attention - see below.
Please call your representatives in Congress to point this story out.

At the bottom of the web page is a link to a local cbs news station.

Read the Background Material...
• CBS 4: Medicaid Drops Coverage For Mom With Cancer
• Heritage Foundation: Side Effects: Doctor Participation May Vary
• Rasmussen: Support for Repeal of Health Care Plan Up To 58%

http://cbs4.com/health/Diana.Smith.Woman.2.1623788.html

At the bottom of the article—

After hearing the CBS4 report, State Sen. Dave Aronberg said he was prepared to take action over the weekend. Social Security officials also started looking into the case to make the surgery happen.

Since the CBS4 News report first aired last Friday, several lawmakers jumped in. Late Monday afternoon Jackson Memorial Hospital confirmed Smith will have her surgery later this week after all.

WRONG! Rush is pointing out that the government denies more claims than any health care provider.

Well, even if government health care is bad, dropping an individual who is already gravely ill in the middle of treatment might be worse. That’s not a good reason to put more people at the mercy of these bureaucrats.

Even if it were, Medicaid eligibility may be based upon family income rather than that of the individual.
