I think this space walker controversy is being orchestrated by the left and these astronauts to make conservatives call for more wasteful spending on space walkers during a recession so that they no longer have any authority to call for fiscal conservatism. If you really want more money spent on pointless NASA missions, back Obama and he’ll give up his gaming on this and call for more NASA spending.

NASA is getting a raise, they're just being retasked to do more earth science. What needs to happen is for Hansen's group at GISS to get the axe and redirect NASA's focus back where it should be, on spaceflight. You can make cuts in some places to raise spending in other places. The notion that we want more "wasteful spending" is a strawman. It's not wasteful; if we give up the goal of the moon, we give up our future.
