A day after three former astronauts derided President Obama’s space policy, the White House is firing back.

In an email sent Wednesday afternoon from the White House press office, Apollo 11 astronaut Buzz Aldrin applauded the president’s “boldness” and changes to NASA’s human spaceflight missions.

“I believe that this is the right program at the right time, and I hope that NASA and our dedicated space community will embrace this new direction as much as I do,” he said in a statement. “By so doing we can together continue to use space exploration to help drive prosperity and innovation right here on Earth.”

W.H. launches Aldrin's defense

From the headline it sounds like Obama's trying to get Buzz back on Dancing With the Stars ...

Or was it American Idol he got kicked off ...

“is a near-term focus on lowering the cost of access to space and on developing key, cutting-edge technologies that will take us further and faster – while expanding our opportunities for exploration along...”
I thought that our space program had done just that.

it sounds like Buzz has had a chip on his shoulder about not being ‘first’ down the steps on the moon

i have thought so numerus times hearing him speak

you would have thought being in the first spacecraft to land on the moon would be big enough

and MAN the ordeal those guys went through!!

I see Obama got his own astronaut. Neener, neener.

No criticism can go unanswered. Has there ever been a more childish group of empty suits?

First Chuck Yeager and now Buzz Aldrin. Something doesn’t smell right here.

The US space program has been a powerpoint-generating debate society for a long time.

There are as many goals as there are imagined paths to each goal.

First Chuck Yeager and now Buzz Aldrin.

To quote a famous philosopher, Jackie Gleason: "To the moon Alice!"

Two unfortunate souls that I had always respected and idolized. (Key word...had)

Buzz I can understand. But what on earth did Yeager do (must have missed it)?

Obama and his WH are at war with everyone! Anyone that dares to disagree with Zero gets singled out for the Chicago thuggery and Alinsky treatment. Obama certainly is thin-skinned, isn’t he. A very petty man with a petty administration.

I saw a clip of Yeager, on FNC I think, shortly after Barry made this announcement. He basically said the same thing Aldrin has written here. Almost to the word. That makes me a little suspicious.

Well, Buzz Aldrin just went down about 15 notches in my book. It'll take a helluva lot for him to get my respect back.

But we do see one truth about this:

HUSSEIN IS NOT A UNITER, HE IS DIVIDING AMERICANS AGAIN! HE CAN'T EVEN GET FELLOW ASTRONAUTS TOGETHER!

Is this the same Buzz Aldrin who punched a man in the face for merely asking him a question about really landing on the moon? That Buzz Aldrin?

Nice pick for support there, Hussein--a hothead who assaults people.
