‘3 parent’ Kids

Baby battery ... a mitochondrion

UK scientists have created "designer embryos" containing DNA from a man and TWO women.

The breakthrough gives hope of healthy children to couples with genetic disorders in their families.

It also offers the prospect of eradicating fatal genetic diseases.

But the procedure - dubbed three person IVF - sparked controversy last night.

Researchers at Newcastle University set out to prevent damaged DNA in mitochondria - the "batteries" that power cells - from being passed on to offspring.

They removed nuclei from the sperm and egg of affected couples, leaving behind the mitochondria.

The nuclei were put into one of the fertilised eggs left over after other women had IVF treatment.

This egg had its nuclei removed - but retained its healthy mitochondria.

Eighty embryos were created but destroyed after eight days.

Lead researcher Professor Doug Turnbull said: "What we've done is like changing the battery on a laptop."

The scientists would need a special licence to culture embryos for longer periods and the procedure would currently be illegal in IVF clinics.

One in 200 British children born each year has a genetic mutation and some are fatal.

But opponent Josephine Quintavalle, of the anti-cloning group CORE, said: "They are creating a child with two mothers. We have to find better ways to cure diseases."

And this is why the Catholic Church is against IVF. What a tragic and pointless loss of life!

So “Heather” really CAN have “two mommies”, and they don’t HAVE to be lesbians?

What a WORLD we live in, eh?

The title should be changed to: “’Three Parent’ (Dead) Kids” :^(

The number of souls exploited and murdered/frozen through IVF is the forgotten massacre.

I’ve had Catholic doctors try to send my wife and I to fertility clinics (it’s almost impossible for us to have children) and the answer is always “no”. I think that just as there is a disordered, obssessive desire to destroy life (abortion), there can be a disordered, obssessive desire to create life (IVF, cloning, etc.). People have turned themselves into the lords over life and death, and this three-party IVF is just another progression. Why not four-party? Five? “Brave New World”....

It has been bizarre for quite some time now. Josef Mengele, Himmler, the Carnegie Institution, the Rockefeller Foundation were conducting or financing eugenics long before this.

I'm sure there'll always be someone [evil] trying to make humans 'more perfect.'

How long before the “Eugenics War” starts? Maybe 20-30 years?

The scientists would need a special licence to culture embryos

"Daddy, where do babies come from?"

"Well, honey, a nice scientist in a white coat goes to bank with lots of dna. Then, he talks to the parents (mommy and daddy, or just the mommy, or the mommy and the mommy, or the daddy and the daddy, or the mommy and the mommy and the daddy, or the community through the government). The parents tell the scientist what they want and the scientist cultures the embryo. If the embryo is good, they put it in the mommy. If the embryo is not good, they throw it in the trash."

We are so screwed. When they make these, they'll make sure they won't be fertile so that all future humans will be controlled by scientists, the new "high priests."

How do you stop it? I suppose, eventually, God or nature will destroy our meddling.

Stick to your guns. My wife and I weren’t supposed to have kids. We’ve had five.

We decided to adopt if we couldn’t have children ourselves. My wife is Slovak/Ruthenian and we decided to adopt from Ukraine. We had friends working in the orphanages there. Kids were dying of diseases that cost a couple hundred bucks to fix here.

Of course, then my wife got pregnant again and again and again.

These “unwanted” children will be murdered in these sick freaks’ new world.

Dolly was cloned. This is still multiple parents. There are special issues caused by cloning that aren’t necessarily issues when dealing with less aggressive forms of genetic manipulation.

These guys are going to start designing musicians, athletes, soldiers, sailors and pilots. I suppose they already are, the way they manage the banks now.

Pretty soon we’re going to need a Gattaca ping.
