Judge: Natl Day Of Prayer Unconstitutional
FOX News ^ | April 15 2010 | Mike Levine

The National Day of Prayer, honored in the United States for more than a half-century, is unconstitutional, a federal judge in Wisconsin has ruled.

In a 66-page opinion issued Thursday, U.S. District Judge Barbara Crabb said the holiday violates the "establishment clause" of the First Amendment, which creates a separation of church and state.

"I understand that many may disagree with that conclusion and some may even view it as a criticism of prayer or those who pray," Crabb said in her opinion. "That is unfortunate. A determination that the government may not endorse a religious message is not a determination that the message itself is harmful, unimportant or undeserving of dissemination."

The opinion comes in a case filed by the Freedom From Religion Foundation, a Wisconsin-based group of self-described "atheists" and "agnostics."

Crabb said her ruling is based on "relevant case law," and it does not prevent religious groups from organizing prayer services or prevent the President from discussing his views on prayer.

"The only issue decided in this case is that the federal government may not endorse prayer in a statute," Crabb said.

On the National Day of Prayer I WILL be wearing one of my Christian ties to work (and I work in public education). I will also participate in a pre-work day prayer that is conducted by students under the flag pole.

I don’t need a National Day of Prayer either to pray or to be heard by God my Savior in Christ Jesus. I, and all Christians, pray for atheists and agnositcs on a regular basis and will continue to do so.

This judge is a piece of work.

Appointed in 1979.

She’s not actually full time, she stepped down as soon as BHO got elected so he could appoint her replacement.

She can apparently hear cases in her new “senior status”.

Judge Crabb is an idiot who is incapable of comprehending plainly written English.

The 1st Amendment clearly says that Congress shall pass no law that has anything to do with (respecting) establishing religion or that prohibits the free exercise of religion. Therefore, the 1st Amendment is forbidding Congress from passing certain laws. It is not forbidding people from doing anything WRT those matters.

She apparently has interpreted that to mean the opposite of what it says. She thinks it means that religion shall not be exercised in the public arena. She is wrong.

And she’s an idiot.

"The only issue decided in this case is that the federal government may not endorse prayer in a statute," Crabb said.

Did this woman ever read how the Founders wrote the darn Constitution—breaking for prayer to overcome the various disagreements and impasses? Does she think they were making themselves unconstitutional as they were writing the Constitution?

Does it seem odd to her that the House and Senate each have an "office of the chaplain"? Is he supposed to lead them in unprayer?

And I'm just wondering: I can count the number of sane female judges I've heard of on one hand. What's up with that?

I fear we’re not all that far away from THIS future...
as presented by Rod Serling in the episode “The Obsolete Man”
from “The Twilight Zone”.

Description: In a future state where religion and books have been banned, a librarian is judged obsolete by the Chancellor and sentenced to death.

We serve an AWESOME God. HE is available to us 24 hours a day 7 days a week 365 days a year. We MUST pray for these atheists and agnostics and I also believe judge Crabb as well. Someday, she, and all of us, will stand before God and give account for our lives. As a child of God, I am saved through the precious blood of His Son Jesus Christ. Through repentance, I daily ask for and receive His forgiveness.

She must be reading the Russian constitution.

I will pray for her on the national day of prayer, that the Lord will soften her heart and restore her brain.

I understand that many may disagree with that conclusion and some may even view it as a criticism of prayer or those who pray

Almighty God, we make our earnest prayer that Thou wilt keep the United States in Thy holy protection: That Thou wilt incline the hearts of our citizens to cultivate a spirit of subordination and obedience to government; and entertain a brotherly affection and love for each other and their fellow citizens of the United States at large; and finally, that Thou wilt most graciously be pleased to dispose us all to do justice, to love mercy, and to demean ourselves with charity, humility and pacific temper of mind which were the characteristics of the Divine Author of our blessed religion, and without a humble imitation of whose example in these things we can never hope to be a happy nation. Grant our supplication, we beseech Thee ...... Amen."

George Washington

Just the President of the Constitutional Convention, but what the hell did he know.

A determination that the government may not endorse a religious message...

...is a complete misreading of the 1st amendment.

Judge, you're an idiot, resign.

You’re correct- the Nation is not eligible for salvation, only protection. Individuals must make the choice of whom they shall serve. Tyrants or other miscreants in power do not affect that(save through their punishment of the unborn, etc).

We all would like to see the USA stand strong in the days ahead, so that we as a people can have a beneficial effect on the lives and freedoms of others. We would like to see an environment where God’s word can be freely preached, the Gospel shared, and the blessings of liberty applied to as many as possible.

You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him drink.

Even if we fail as a nation, God will prevail.
