The dems will never end the death tax.
When the GOP was in control of both houses and Dubya was president, why did they not use their majority to make the repeal of the death tax permanent ? The law that allowed it to expire in 10 years is so stupid that I can't even think of a better word for it.
Notice how the Dems were able to ram through an unpopular healthcare bill while the GOP then was unable to impose their majority will for a very popular bill. They are such whoosies.

The problem is that if the Death Tax is repealed something also must be done about the “carry over basis” on assets owned by the deceased. If not, there will be capital gains tax on the sale of those assets, not to mention a huge accounting problem establishing the tax basis of assets held over a lifetime. (If basis can not be established, it is assumed to be zero.)

The Dems also cheated, gamed the rules, and didn’t care whose re-election possibilities they’d trash to get their Obamanation of a law passed.
The Republicans always played within the rules. . .and got caught by a Senate rule on the 10-year provision, as I recall. .. We should have just “deemed it invalid”, and we wouldn’t be in this pickle. . .
